Psalms for Adults - Week 6 It’s fitting to revisit the Psalms of Lament during Holy Week. May you experience solidarity with Christ and all His people as you pray these psalms. - Pastor Mike So it is right and fair for you Psalm 13 - A Prayer for the LORD’s Help to correct and punish me. 5 I have sinned and done wrong 1 How much longer, LORD, since the day I was born. will you forget about me? 6 But you want complete honesty, Will it be forever? so teach me true wisdom. How long will you hide? 7 Wash me with hyssop 2 How long must I be confused until I am clean and miserable all day? and whiter than snow. How long will my enemies 8 Let me be happy and joyful! keep beating me down? You crushed my bones, now let them celebrate. 3 Please listen, LORD God, 9 Turn your eyes from my sin and answer my prayers. and cover my guilt. Make my eyes sparkle again, 10 Create pure thoughts in me or else I will fall and make me faithful again. into the sleep of death. 11 Don’t chase me away from you 4 My enemies will say, or take your Holy Spirit “Now we’ve won!” away from me. They will be greatly pleased when I am defeated. 12 Make me as happy as you did when you saved me; 5 I trust your love, make me want to obey! and I feel like celebrating 13 I will teach sinners your Law, because you rescued me. and they will return to you. 6 You have been good to me, LORD, 14 Keep me from any deadly sin. and I will sing about you. Only you can save me! Then I will shout and sing Psalm 51-A Prayer for Forgiveness about your power to save. 1 You are kind, God! 15 Help me to speak, Please have pity on me. and I will praise you, Lord. Yes, I wait more eagerly than a soldier on guard duty Psalm 126 - Celebrating the Harvest waits for the dawn. 1 It seemed like a dream 7 Israel, trust the LORD! when the LORD brought us back He is always merciful, to the city of Zion. and he has the power 2 We celebrated with laughter to save you. and joyful songs. 8 Israel, the LORD will save you In foreign nations it was said, from all of your sins. “The LORD has worked miracles for his people.” Psalm 22 - Suffering and Praise 3 And so we celebrated (This is what Christ began to pray on the cross.) because the LORD had indeed worked miracles for us. 1My God, my God, why have you deserted me? 4 Our LORD, we ask you to bless Why are you so far away? our people again, Won’t you listen to my groans and let us be like streams and come to my rescue? in the Southern Desert. 2 I cry out day and night, 5 We cried as we went out but you don’t answer, to plant our seeds. and I can never rest. Powerful bulls from Bashan are everywhere. 25 When your people meet, 13 My enemies are like lions you will fill my heart roaring and attacking with your praises, LORD, with jaws open wide. and everyone will see me keep my promises to you. 14 I have no more strength 26 The poor will eat and be full, than a few drops of water. and all who worship you All my bones are out of joint; will be thankful my heart is like melted wax. and live in hope. 15 My strength has dried up like a broken clay pot, 27 Everyone on this earth and my tongue sticks will remember you, LORD. to the roof of my mouth. People all over the world You, God, have left me will turn and worship you, to die in the dirt. 28 because you are in control, the ruler of all nations. 16 Brutal enemies attack me like a pack of dogs, 29 All who are rich tearing at my hands and have more than enough and my feet. will bow down to you, Lord. 17 I can count all my bones, Even those who are dying and my enemies just stare and almost in the grave and sneer at me. will come and bow down. 18 They took my clothes 30 In the future, everyone and gambled for them. will worship and learn about you, our Lord. 19 Don’t stay far away, LORD! 31 People not yet born My strength comes from you, will be told, so hurry and help. “The Lord has saved us!” 20 Rescue me from enemy swords and save me from those dogs. 21 Don’t let lions eat me. page 3 .
