Editor-in-chief I take immense pleasure in continuing to represent KEC as the editor-in-chief of the Asso. Prof. Shailita Manandhar Joshi Newsletter. Vice Principal Editors As our college has always focused on all-rounded development of our faculty and most Ar. Swati Pujari importantly our students, KEC hosted and participated in numerous events this semester as well. The foundation of KEC’s relationship with Handong Global University was set last Ar. KEC Newsletter August 2017 3 DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Construction Management Field Visit, Department of Civil Engineering, 20 & 21, 22 & 23 and 26 & 27 Jestha 2074

The Department of Civil Engineering organized a two day field visit to the under construction site of Mountain Glory Forest Resort at Dobilla, for the students of Year IV/ Part II, section A,B and C from 20-21, 22-23 and 26- 27 Jestha 2074 respectively. The field trip was attended by 119 students and coordinated by four faculty members, Asso. Prof. Ishwar Adhikari, Lec. Shishir Rijal and Lec. Rajan Nhemaphuki. The field visit was organized with the aim of identifying construction materials, equipments and site conditions. The students further learned about planning and scheduling a construction project.

Geology Field Visit, Department of Civil Engineering, 07 to 10 Ashad 2074

The Department of Civil Engineering organized a geological field visit to Malekhu for the students of Year II/ Part II of Bachelor in Civil Engineering from 07-08, 08-09 and 09- 10 of Ashad 2074 to Section C, B and A respectively. The field visit was coordinated by three faculty members and three external geologists namely Lec. Ramin Shrestha, Asst. Lec. Aashish K.C., Asst. Lec. Harshi Kesh Karn, and Asso. Site Visit on Low Cost Housing, Congratulations Department of Architecture, 16 Jestha 2074

The Department of Architecture conducted a site visit to Paropakar School on 16 Jestha 2074. The field visit was coordinated by Sr. Lec. Sweta Shrestha for 18 students of Year IV Part II. The team visited the under-construction building site for clinic in the premises of Paropakar School. The building is designed and constructed using hollow cement concrete blocks. The students observed reinforcement detailing in horizontal and vertical elements in both foundation and plinth.

Presentation of conservation projects was organised by Madhyapur Engineering Society at Yachu Party Venue in Sankhadhar Chowk in Thimi on 13 Jestha 2074. Four faculty members from KEC including Asso. Prof. Moon Singh Dangol, Sr. Lec. Sweta Shrestha, Ar. Manisha Rana and Ar. Kiran Joshi along with 10 students from Year V of Bachelor's in Architecture represented KEC in the presentation. The presentation topic was "Responsive Approach to the Conservation of Historic Township of Nagadesh and Bode", a conservation studio project assessed by final year students of KEC. The chief guest of the presentation was the newly elected mayor of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality Mr. Madan Sundar Shrestha. Other guests were newly elected ward chairpersons, architects and engineers of the society. KEC's architecture department would like to thank the president of the MES Er. Ram Shrestha and MES Secretary Er. Shankar Prajapati, for organizing the programme and providing the certificate of appreciation to students and the Department.

Guest Lecture Freehand Sketching visit, on Building Department of Architecture, 28 Ashad 2074 Science, Department The Department of Architecture organised a one-day visit to Manjushree Park, Chobhar on 28 Ashad 2074. 38 students of Year I (2073 batch) visited Chobhar of Architecture, for landscape sketching using water colour. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a one day field visit to the Nepal Telecom International Exchange Building located at Jawlakhel on 29 Ashad 2074. This visit was coordinated by Visiting Lecturer Er. Upaj Mahat on behalf of the department. The department organized this visit exclusively for the students from Year IV studying the elective subject Optical Fiber, in order to enhance their practical knowledge on Optical Fiber.

The talk program was organized targeting the students from Year IV studying the elective subject Optical Fiber.

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING Student Internship at Yomari, LIS Nepal Pvt. Ltd., 26 Jestha 2074 onwards

Six students from the Department of Computer Engineering namely Suvash Vishowkarma, Pranay Shrestha, Kripesh Dhakal, Jaya Ojha, and, Aashu Shakya joined an internship at one of the member companies of Yomari group - LIS Nepal Pvt. Ltd., a service centric Information Technology firm located at Manbhawan, Lalitpur. The main objective in conducting this internship is to allow the students to further sharpen their knowledge and skills acquired from their academic field, to support them in stepping ahead in their professional career. Training of "Proteus'' simulation software, Kathmandu Engineering College, 22 & 23 Baisakh 2074

The KEC Electrical Club organized a 2-day training of 'Proteus' - a simulation software on 22 and 23 Baishak 2074 at the college premises. A total of 45 students from Year I, II and III studying Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering attended this training. The resource person for this training was Lec. Nischal Guruwacharya. At the end of the training, the students were provided with certificate of completion.

A talk show focusing on the challenges faced by a power Talk Show and SYNERGY system engineer was organized by the KEC Electrical Club on 26 Jestha 2074. H-Help

Helping Hands "An Effort to Lift People" (H-Help) is a non-profit social organization of KEC engaged in various social services established in 2004. H-Help in association with Red-Cross society organizes a blood donation campaign in the college premises every year. Each year, H-Help recruits new members to its team whilst bidding adieu to older members. This year too, a welcome program was organised by H-Help to embrace its new members to the family. Similarly, a farewell programme was held in college premises for the members who had contributed to H-Help activities and social outreach during their term in the group.

The charity show is one of the biggest events of KEC where the students as well as teachers and faculty members come together to showcase their talent. The main attractions of the event include dancing, singing, acoustic and band performances etc. The charity show charges a small ticket fee and donates the collected fund for education of underprivileged students of different districts of Nepal. H-Help plans to spend this year's charity fund by donating bags, stationery products and books to 210 students of Kalidevi Adharbhut Vidhyalaya in Lamidanda, Dolakha

H-Help met with young kids from Access to Child Rights, a home for orphans, and donated stationery items like lined copies, pencil boxes, magic boards and wall charts to 121 students. Similarly, H-Help reached out its noble hands to two schools: Dupcheswor Madhyamik Vidhyalaya in Nuwakot and Shree Koshrang Adharbhut Vidhyalaya in Dhading to assist these schools with several stationery items. H-Help donated stationery items to 102 students of Dupcheswor Madhyamik Vidhyalaya, Nuwakot and to 127 students of Shree Koshrand Adharbut Vidhyalaya, Dhading. All the students of this school were from Chepang families.
