Esher Cricket Club Annual Report and Accounts 2013 01 President’s Report

Just as pleasing, the Colts continue to achieve success at every age level. This group of youngsters is the pride of Esher CC and the coaches and age group managers, under Duncan Pauline, are doing a fabulous job. As I said in my speech at the Anniversary Ball this year, it is vital to keep hold of as many of our bright young stars as possible, as they represent the future success of our great Club. Full details regarding the achievements of the Colts in 2013 are given elsewhere in this report. Thank you, also, to all of our Colts’ parents without whose continued support the Club would surely struggle.

04 Esher Cricket Club Annual Report and Accounts 2013 05 Chairman’s Report

After 5 years as Chairman I have decided to step down this winter. I have very much enjoyed my term but felt it was time to step aside. I would like to thank all members who have served on committees, volunteered for assisting the Colts teams, worked in the background organising and managing and generally providing support to me as Chairman. Your assistance is much appreciated and, as I have said before, without such voluntary input clubs such as ours will not survive.

I am delighted that Geoff Ellis will serve next We can look back on the 2013 season with some year as Chairman. 06 Chairman Elect’s Comments

As Chairman Elect, I would like to offer my sincere thanks to all those people who contribute both for what they have done and for what I hope they will continue to do. To this I would like to make a request. If you feel you would like to help in some way or to extend or change what you do, please do not hesitate to contact me. Here are three ideas; perhaps you could take a coaching qualification to be able to help our young cricketers or volunteer to support an age group manager or encourage family and friends to use our facilities for functions. There is plenty of scope. First I would like to add my thanks to my friend, John Woollhead, for his tireless work developing I look forward to working with all of you to Esher cricket. 08 Treasurer’s Report

We spent more money in some areas than we did in the previous year, particularly on coaches, although this should be seen as a positive, primarily because the weather permitted much more cricket hence the need for more coaching hours and because we aim to improve the quality of our offer to young cricketers. We also invested in new junior pitches on the outfield and took the important decision to level the ends of the square.

Senior Cricket – Reports and Averages 1st XI

At the start of July a strong all round performance saw Esher return to winning ways with a 7 wicket win against Horsley & Send. Irshad played a key role in restricting Horsley & Send to just 136 (taking 4-8 before picking up an injury which would keep him out of the following match), then Esher’s batsmen chased down the total with the loss of 3 wickets (Hopkinson 46 and Mutucumarana 42 not out).

Walton were next and Esher were hoping to gain revenge for the early season defeat. On a sweltering day, Walton posted a decent total of Grant Meadows 236. In Irshad’s absence, 16 year old Nick Winder 1st XI Captain led the attack and bowled his left arm spin with great skill and maturity to take a superb 5-69 Esher CC 1st XI report 2013 from 23 consecutive overs. Geoff and James Ellis orchestrated a hugely successful auction! We had some amazing auction prices this year, including signed sports memorabilia, tickets to sporting events and other great nights out and we were overwhelmed by everybody’s enthusiasm and generosity, both with the donations and the bidding on the night.
