Patrick Ewing Named Head Men's Basketball Coach at Georgetown FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MONDAY, APRIL 3, 2017 PLEASE CONTACT: MIKE “MEX” CAREY, 202- 687-2475 Patrick Ewing Named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Georgetown WASHINGTON – Georgetown University announced today that Patrick Ewing (C’85) has been named its new Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Ewing comes back to Georgetown after serving for 15 years as an assistant head coach in the NBA. He served as an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards (2002-03), Houston Rockets (2003-06) and Orlando Magic (2007-12) and most recently as the Associate Head Coach for the Charlotte Hornets. Ewing is recognized as the greatest men’s basketball player to ever don the Blue & Gray. He was selected as one of the top 50 players in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008. Ewing was a three-time consensus First Team All-America selection (1983, 1984, 1985) on the Hilltop, leading the Hoyas to three NCAA Championship Game appearances and the 1984 National Championship title. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the 1984 tournament. His play propelled Georgetown into one of the most respected basketball programs in the country. "Patrick's commitment to Georgetown and to further animating our legacy of excellence is inspiring," said University President John J. DeGioia. "He is a visionary leader with a deep connection to our community. His experience as a coach over the last 15 years with some of the best basketball minds in the country has prepared him to lead our program. We very much look forward to welcoming him back to our Hilltop as the Head Coach of our men's basketball team.” “After a very thorough national search, Patrick Ewing emerged as the talented leader best prepared to coach the Hoyas in this new era of highly competitive college basketball,” Georgetown Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed said. “To hire a head coach with this depth of coaching experience and personal achievements is tremendous. It is a thrill to have him come back to his alma mater and continue the legacy of tradition and success he had as a student-athlete on the Hilltop.” During his illustrious career, Ewing had the opportunity to play for, and coach, alongside some of the great coaches in basketball, including Pat Riley (New York Knicks), Jeff Van Gundy (Knicks, Houston Rockets), Stan Van Gundy (Orlando Magic), Tom Thibodeau (Orlando Magic) and Steve Clifford (Charlotte). "My four years at Georgetown were the best of my life," Ewing said. "Georgetown is my home and it is a great honor for me to return to my alma mater and serve as the next head coach. I have been preparing to be a head coach for many years and can’t wait to return to the Hilltop.” He was the first pick in the 1985 NBA Draft and went on to earn NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 1986 with the New York Knicks after averaging 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Ewing scored 24,815 points during his 17-year NBA career to go along with 11,607 rebounds. Ewing spent 15 years with the Knicks and made 10-consecutive NBA All-Star appearances. Ewing averaged 21.0 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.45 blocks in 1,183 career games and was a member of the NBA's 50th Anniversary Team. He remains the New York Knicks' all-time leader in points, rebounds, blocked shots, steals and field goals made. He still stands second all-time in scoring at Georgetown, averaging 15.3 points in 143 games, and is one of only four players in program history to score at least 2,000 points (2,184). Ewing is the all-time leader in total rebounds (1,316), most blocked shots (493) and most games played (143). .

  • Vipers' Head Coach Resigns Meet
Vipers’ Head Coach Resigns Larry Brown resigns from his position due to medical issues Florence, SC – February 12, 2014 – The Pee Dee Vipers’ Head Coach, Larry Brown, has resigned from his position as a consequence of medical concerns and precautions. Brown and the Vipers took into consideration the long-term health of Brown and productivity of the team when making this decision. Brown does not feel that he can adequately provide the Vipers with the standard of coaching he is accustom to contributing and focus on improving his health at the same time. The entire Vipers Organization backs Brown in his decision and will continue to support him during his journey to good health. Andre Bovain has been named Head Coach. Bovain served as the Vipers’ Assistant Coach under Brown. NBA legend and Columbia, SC native, Xavier McDaniel will be one of the Vipers’ assistant coaches. Bryan Hergenroether will also join the Vipers’ coaching staff. The Vipers’ new coaching staff will leave much of what Brown has developed in place; plays and structure will be similar. Brown and Bovain worked closely to ensure that the coaching transition will be smooth and not dramatically impact the team’s winning style of play. Xavier McDaniel: • Played in college at Wichita State (1981-1985) • 4th overall in the 1985 NBA draft to the Seattle SuperSonics • Played 14 seasons in the NBA (1985-1998) • NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1986 • NBA All-Star in 1988 • Career Stats (NBA): Points – 13,606; Rebounds – 5,313; Assists – 1,775 • Played against names such as Magic Johnson,

YAHOO! SPORTS DATE: 01/28/2021 Trae Young-led Hawks holding own against league's best as they focus on making the playoffs By: Chris Haynes https://sports.yahoo.com/trae-young-denies-beef-with-john-collins-as-the-hawks-focus-on-making-the- playoffs-003257869.html ATLANTA — The Brooklyn Nets were a few seconds away from staving off a young Atlanta Hawks squad on the road inside of State Farm Arena on Wednesday night. With four seconds remaining in overtime, James Harden was at the charity stripe and Hawks star point guard Trae Young was positioned behind him staring into space in deep thought. He looked as if he was itching for a couple of do-overs. The rising Hawks had fought valiantly throughout and led for much of the contest. They had their chances to win. In the end, the three-headed superstar trio of Harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were too much to overcome down the stretch, accounting for 89 of the team’s 132 points in a four-point Nets win. Young finished the evening with 28 points and 14 assists. The third-year guard issued Yahoo Sports an exclusive phone interview to discuss what he was thinking late in the game, the misperception of the Hawks’ locker room and a look into the latest phase of the franchise’s developmental chapter. ‘I just love playing against the best’ “When the game got to that point [with Harden at the line sealing the victory], I was just thinking that I’m looking forward to the next matchup against them,” Young told Yahoo Sports.

  • BREAKING: Minnesota Timberwolves Fire Tom Thibodeau
BREAKING: Minnesota Timberwolves Fire Tom Thibodeau Author : Daniel Carpio The Tom Thibodeau era for the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves is over. Within the last few hours the Timberwolves have fired Thibodeau, who was both the head coach and team president. The news was first reported by The Athletic's Shams Charania and ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. While the timing of the decision is confusing given Minnesota just won a lopsided 108-86 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers earlier in the day, it has been a long time coming. Thibodeau's trademark hard nose coaching style and tendency to play starters extensive minutes eroded his relationship with both players and Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor. Nothing highlighted this divide more Thibodeau's handling of forward Jimmy Butler's trade request. His outright refusal to want to trade Butler had him sabotage a potential deal with the Miami Heat as it was set to be completed. He also ignored another offer from the Houston Rockets that reportedly included four first 1 / 2 round draft picks. These instances reduced Minnesota's leverage in negotiating a deal. When Butler returned to the Timberwolves after holding out in the preseason he orchestrated one of the most infamous practices the league has witnessed, and seemingly did so with Thibodeau's blessing. Ultimately Butler was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for forwards Robert Covington and Dario Saric, and only after Taylor stepped in. Assistant coach Ryan Saunders, son of late beloved Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders, will take over as interim coach. Scott Layden will take over front office duties.
