Opening tip is set for 7:00 pm at Freedom Hall and will stream live on ESPN+. GARDNER-WEBB QUICK LOOK u Gardner-Webb played 10 men in last Thursday's opener, with six of those seeing their first action as a Runnin' Bulldog. GWU played 11 men in Saturday's loss at Pittsburgh. u Gardner-Webb's 0-of-19 shooting start at Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon was the slowest start of the Division I era for the Runnin' Bulldogs. The team's defensive effort remained strong, preventing Pittsburgh from pulling too far away. u Tim Craft is the third coach in Gardner-Webb history to reach 100 career wins in six seasons. The Tallahassee, Fla., native joined Hall of Famers Eddie Holbrook (141) and Jim Wiles (103) on that list when GWU rallied for an 87-74 overtime win against Hampton on January 19, 2019 in Paul Porter Arena. u Named head coach on July 22, 2013. u Under Craft, the Runnin’ Bulldogs have not endured a losing season in Big South Conference play in his seven seasons. Craft is 71-51 in the Big South, reaching at least 10 wins in six of his seven seasons so far. u Led GWU to 2019 Big South title and first NCAA Division I Tournament. u Gardner-Webb has seen five games postponed and two cancelled since November 25. Four of the newcomers are true freshmen, three more are redshirt freshmen who sat out last season and two are junior college transfers. One of the true freshmen, Tyrone Simos-Primerano u Led GWU to a pair of 20-win seasons, including 2018-2019. won't arrive on campus until January from Australia due to COVID-19 international travel restrictions. u Ranks second among all GWU coaches with 127 wins through seven seasons. u Anthony Selden, the younger brother of former Kansas star and Chicago Bulls guard Wayne Selden, scored a career-high nine points and blocked two more shots in the loss at Pittsburgh. The high-flying wing did a postgraduate season at Tilton School in New Hampshire and redshirted at Gardner-Webb last season. He hails from the Roxbury neighborhood in Boston, HEAD COACHING HISTORY Mass. u Lance Terry made the most of his first career start at Western Kentucky, draining 5-of-6 shots from long range en route to a GARDNER-WEBB OVERALL BIG SOUTH career-high 15 points. The Newnan, Ga., native played in 15 games last season as a freshman before missing the remainder of the season with an injury. Terry was an AAU teammate of NBA top pick Anthony Edwards with the Atlanta Express on the Under 2013-2014 18-15 10-6 Armour circuit before signing with the Runnin' Bulldogs. 2014-2015 20-15 10-8 u Standout sophomore Kareem Reid was tabbed as a preseason All-Big South choice in October. He is the highest-rated 2015-2016 17-16 10-8 recruit to sign with Gardner-Webb during the recruiting service era (since 2000), ranking as a top-75 national prospect as a 2016-2017 19-14 11-7 junior at Putnam Science (Conn.) Academy. Reid averaged 6.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game in just 15.7 minutes per game last season. He nearly pulled off a triple-double vs. Hampton, scoring 10 points to go with eight 2017-2018 14-18 9-9 rebounds and a career-high eight blocked shots. Blessed with a 7-foot-6 wingspan, Reid was solid in his season debut at Western Kentucky, going for 11 points, six rebounds and four blocks in a career-best 28 minutes played. 2018-2019 23-12 10-6 2019-2020 16-16 11-7 u Gardner-Webb blocked 10 shots as a team in its season opener, getting four each from Ludovic Dufeal and Kareem Reid. Anthony Selden added two blocks in his debut. Dufeal (71 blocks) and Reid (47 blocks) finished first and second in the 2020-2021 0-2 0-0 Big South last season in blocked shots. • A Short History of St Martins Athletic & Harrier Club
A Short History of St Martins Athletic & Harrier Club Foreword The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the founding of the St Martins Athletic and Harrier Club. This brief history has been prepared to mark the occasion, for although St Martins no longer exists as such, it continues in the form of its successor, Port Hills Athletic, formed when St Martins merged with Cashmere Hillmorton in 2002. In preparing this history, it became evident that besides the names of those mentioned herein, the history of running and track and field in St Martins has been one of countless numbers of people taking up the sport and then enthusiastically giving of their time and energy. Many of those are still with the sport, even more have ‘moved on’ for various reasons, whether it be that their children grew up, they moved to somewhere else, they were no longer able to compete because of age or disability and so on. Be that as it may this history is therefore a salute to all those who have so generously given to the sport in so many ways over fifty years. Thank you to John Dumergue, Kevin Jago, Graham White, Les Woods who provided feedback on the preliminary version. ~ Stuart Payne August 2015 1 Contents Beginnings page 3 Club growth 6 Children’s athletics 19 Flagship and other events 22 Clubrooms 24 Club newsletter 27 Social activities 30 Governance 32 Umbrella club participation 35 Amalgamation 36 Some high-profile achievements 37 Conclusion 39 Appendices - A.
