  • Magnum to Play in South Korea Page 1 of 2 the Freeport News
The Freeport News - Magnum to play in South Korea Page 1 of 2 Thursday, August 18, 2011 Sports Magnum to play in South Korea By Andrew Coakley FN Acting News Editor Grand Bahamian professional basketball player, Magnum Rolle may have to wait a while before he can actually step onto the hardwood floor of the NBA and play with the Atlanta Hawks because of a lockout, however, the newly turned NBA player is not resting on his laurels and waiting for things to change. Earlier this month, Magnum signed a deal to play overseas, while the NBA lockout continues. Magnum signed with LG Sakers, a team from South Korea. According to sources, Rolle's deal was in the amount of $973,000. It was the least amount dished out for NBA players who have decided to play abroad until the lockout has been resolved. The amount was based on the fact that Magnum is still a rookie with the Atlanta Hawks and has never really played with the team. Other players who have signed deals to play abroad include: * Deron Williams ($16.3 million, Nets; Turkey) * Nicolas Batum ($2.1 million, Blazers; France) * Jordan Farmar ($4 million, Nets; Israel) * David Andersen ($2.7 million, Hornets; Italy) * Magnum Rolle ($973,-000, Hawks; South Korea) * Timofey Mozgov ($3.3 million, Nuggets; Russia) * Ersan Ilyasova ($2.5 million, Bucks; Turkey) * Trevor Booker, ($1.2 million, Wizards; Israel.) Initially, it was believed that more of the noted named NBA players would have signed deals to play abroad while the lockout was in full effect.

  • Pilots Men's Basketball Excited About 2009 - 2010 Recruiting Class
Pilots Men's Basketball excited about 2009 - 2010 recruiting class SEPTEMBER 09, 2009 LSUS Men’s Basketball completed their 2008 – 2009 season with their 5th consecutive trip to the NAIA National Tournament and won their 4th consecutive GCAC Tournament Championship. The Pilots have won 20 plus games each of their seasons since reinstating the program in 2003 and have set the standard extremely high for future Pilots. To maintain the status of “Louisiana’s most winning college basketball program over the past 6 years,” the Pilots will have to fill the void of losing 5 players off last year’s team. LSUS Pilots leading scorers Chris Gatlin (16.5) and teammate Tyrone Hamilton (15.9) recently signed professional contracts to play basketball in Germany. Replacing over 80% of their offensive scoring was one challenge for Head Coach Chad McDowell this off-season that didn’t seem to bother him much. “We return a 3 year starter in point guard Jared Stevenson, GCAC Freshman of the Year Derrick Parker, Brandon Mims, and several other key members from last year’s team,” commented McDowell. “Scoring was the least of our concerns in recruiting this year. We feel scoring will take care of itself. Now that doesn’t mean we didn’t sign some guys that can really put the ball in the basket in bunches. It just simply means we were looking for some things in this year’s recruiting class other than scoring. With all that being said, we couldn’t be more excited about a group of young men than we are about this year’s recruiting class.

The experienced Impact Basketball staff will provide the team with a truly unique bonding experience through training and competition, as well as off-court team building activities. Designated team practice times and live games against high-level American players, including NBA players, provide teams with an opportunity to prepare for their upcoming competition while also developing individually. Each team’s program will be completely customized to fit their schedule, with direct consultation from the team’s coaching staff and management. We will integrate any and all concepts that the coaching staff would like to implement and focus the training on areas that the team’s coaches have deemed deficient. Our incorporation of off-site training and team-building exercises make this a one-of-a-kind opportunity for team and individual development.
