The rectory house is occupied by the curate, the Rev. F. T. Mackmurdo, l\I.A. There is a. Mission in connection with the Church at the further end of the parish. A School Eoard, united with the parish of Hautbois, was established here in 1~72, and now consists .of R. A. Gorell, Esq. (chairman), the Rev. J. C. Girling (vice-chairman), and Messrs. John Howes, C. Hood, and Robert Alien. Mr. H. H. Cole is the clerk. The , Horstead, and Great Hautbois Read­ ing Rooms and Mutual Improvement Society was established in 1877, and has 50 members. Captain Archdale is secretary, and Mr. T. L. Coman librarian. The Wesleyans, Wesleyan Reformers, and Primitive Methodists have small chapels here. The New Free Methodist Chapel was built in 1878, at a cost of £400, and has 200 sittings. The Eoard School, a spacious building of flint with freestone dressings, erected by subscription in 1845, at a cost of .£400, on land given by R. P. Kerrrp, Esq., was enlarged in 1878 at a cost of £1000, to accommodate 250 scholars. A Nmsing Home was founded in October 1881 for Coltishall and the surrounding parishes. Mrs. Archdale is hon. secretary. The Free School is now used as the Board schoolmaster's house. It was built by the parish, and is endowed with £10 a. year, left by John Chapman in 1718 for ten free scholars, and the dividend of £360 three per cent. stock, left by the Rev. Charles Grape-, D.D., in 1815. Coltishall Hall is a. handsome mansion, enlarged in 1871, and occupied by the present owner, Richard Rogers, Esq., J.P. A road which crossed the lawn was given up in 1782 on condition.that the owner of the Hall should pay 40s. y.early to the poor. In 1810 se-veral Roman cinerary urns were found )n a marl pit in this parish. Large lime works have been opened recently near the railway station, from which lime of a very superior quality is obtained. A Fire Brigade was established h~re in 1856.
