Overview of Production of Recordings and Digital Music Sales in 2016 In 2016, the total production value of recorded music (audio and music videos) decreased 3% from the previous year to 245.7 billion yen while unit production posted a year-on-year decline of 5% to 213 million units. On the other hand, sales of digital music rose 12% from the previous year to 52.9 billion yen, marking the third consecutive year-on-year increase.
