Choreography Assignment

The purpose of this assignments is to grow as a choreographer by analyzing a famous choreographer’s and 2 pieces they have created. Here are your options for choreographers: (You may NOT choose a choreographer that you did last semester)

You are going to be creating a presentation via a program like “powerpoint” or “Prezi” or “google slides” and digitally giving it to Mrs. South. ([email protected])

Here’s the information to be included:

1. Name/picture of choreographer 2. Background (at least 3 sentences) on their early life 3. Description of what type of dance they are famous for. (i.e. if they choreograph for musicals, you need to describe what musicals are. If they choreograph hip-hop, you need to give a brief background on what hip-hop is.) 4. What awards and/or honors have they received and for what? 5. Find a clip of their work (at least 60 seconds) from youtube and include it in a slide. Have separate slides that describe: 1. Where the dance is from 2. What genre of dance it is 3. Name/Describe a motif you saw in this dance 4. The theme of the dance 5. Choreographic elements did you saw in their choreography (name at least two) 1. Must include the time in the dance PLUS a description (i.e. there’s an overlapping cannon at 2:32 in the piece where each person pulls their arm away from themselves before rolling to the floor.) 6. What you liked about the dance that you could take away and apply to your own work in class? 6. Repeat step 6 with another one of their pieces. 7. Take away: 1. You must find 2 sources that are NOT the youtube videos you find. In all, you will end up with at least 4 sources (including your youtube videos).
