Frolander’s gold medal 1993-94 7-4 3rd 10th at the 2000 Summer Olympics added to the world-class reputation the SMU men’s 1994-95 7-3 2nd 7th swimming and diving team has set. In 1996, Ryan Berube captured gold as a member 1995-96 6-2 2nd 6th of the 800 free relay team for the United States. In 1992 both Frolander and Scott 1996-97 3-3 1st 10th Donie won silver medals, while in 1984 the 1997-98 4-3 1st 9th great Steve Lundquist won two gold medal. Ricardo Prado (Brazil) joined Lundquist in 1998-99 5-4 1st T32nd Los Angeles, winning a silver medal. Jerry Heindenrich (USA) won two gold medals, one 1999-2000 5-2 1st NR silver, and one bronze at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, West Germany. All but 2000-01 3-4 1st 12th four SMU swimming and diving records are now owned by Olympic medal winners. 2001-02 4-2 1st 22nd 2002-03 5-4 1st 25th SMU also owns one of the fi nest pedigrees in college coaching, beginning with the legend 2003-04 3-2 1st 24th A.R. “Red” Barr, for whom SMU’s outdoor pool is named. From 1946 through 1971, SMU TOTALS 81-42 .659 Barr lead SMU to 11 top 10 fi nishes in the nation, recording only three losing records CAREER TOTALS 85-45 .654 in 25 years on the Hilltop. SMU swimming great George McMillion took over for Barr in 1972 and continued the Ponies’ torrid pace on the national level of collegiate swimming, leading SMU to 14 NCAA top 10 fi nishes in 17 years as head coach, including a school best No. 2 fi nish in 1983. Eddie Sinnott has since led the Ponies to 10 top12 fi nishes in the past 15 years.

In his 22nd year at SMU, Jim Stillson continues to produce 1980 - Moscow, Soviet Union some of America’s most talented divers on a regular basis. Steve Barnicoat (USA) SMU’s diving accomplishments include six Olympians, one Steve Lundquist (USA) world champion, a 1992 silver medalist, 10 U.S. National Guy Goosen (Zimbabwe) champions, and four NCAA champions in seven different 1976 - Montreal, Canada events. A 15-time conference coach of the year, Stillson was Carlos Nazario (Puerto Rico) named the 1991 and 1995 NCAA Women’s Diving Coach of the Year, and earned NCAA Men’s Diving Coach of the 1972 - Munich, West Germany Year honors in 1989. RM For the 23rd straight year, the Dallas Morning News Swimming & Diving Classic highlights the spring schedule for the men’s swimming and diving team. This year’s event will take place Jan. 14-15, 2005 and will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night. This year’s fi eld includes SMU, Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M and Arizona State.

The competition allows a nine-man squad (eight swimmers and one diver per team) from each of the teams for the two evening sessions. There are no preliminary heats, only consolation and championship fi nals. The meet features two diving events, the one- meter competition on Friday night and the three-meter on Saturday night.

Florida won the 2004 Classic with 359 points. SMU’s Philip Griffi n was named Outstanding diver and SMU took fourth place with 314 points.

In 2003, the fi rst Jerry Heidenreich Memorial 200 Freestyle event was held. Named after SMU’s four-time Olympic MEET SCHEDULE medallist, the Heidenreich 200 freestyle honors the late Friday, Jan. 14, 2005 Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 SMU star that passed away in 2003. 7:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. Heidenreich won four medals, including two golds, at the 400 Medley Relay 400 Free Relay 1972 Olympics in Munich for U.S.A. An All-American each 400 IM 500 Free of his four years at SMU (1969-72), Heidenreich set a new 200 Free 200 Back NCAA record in the 200 free on his way to being crowned 50 Free 200 Breast national champion in the event during his dominating 1972 One-Meter Diving Three-Meter Diving senior season. 100 Fly 100 Free 100 Back 200 Fly In 1992, Heidenreich was inducted into the International 100 Breast 200 IM Swimming Hall of Fame.
