AMERKS DAILY PRESS CLIPS W ednesday, April 7, 2021 Amerks Return From Covid Pause W ith A Deeper Appreciation For Each Other, Organization By Suzie Cool Amerks.com Exactly one year to the day of the Rochester Americans’ last game of the 2019-20 season, it seemed as if we were living in the movie Groundhog Day. After a 3-2 shootout loss to the Utica Comets on Wednesday, Mar. 10 at the Adirondack Bank Center, the Amerks were immediately shut down due to COVID-19 protocols the very next morning. It came as a shock to everyone, especially in the sense that this year is so untraditional that it’s difficult to determine where this could even stem from in the first place. Every few days the players, coaches and hockey staff are tested prior to walking into The Blue Cross Arena, there’s plastic dividers keeping the players at a safe distance from each other in the locker room, coaches are masked at practice and games. And that’s just the start. Keep in mind the seemingly endless list of team protocols that are strongly enforced daily to ensure the health and safety of everyone. When first addressing the media over the mid-March situation that the Amerks faced, Amerks head coach Seth Appert simply said, “this was an unfortunate situation and it happened at no fault of our players.” Appert then went on to add, “I do want to really make sure that we understand that our players have been nothing but exemplary in their on-ice work ethic and competitiveness, but also in their off-ice decision-making and habits.” From March 11 on, there were five games postponed over the span of 16 days for Rochester, however, the first-year coach wanted it to be known that the organization wasn’t taking this lightly and this was to ensure that there was no mass spread and that this situation was being taken care of as soon as possible.

Sabres preparing to face 'dangerous' New Jersey Devils in home opener By Lance Lysowski The Buffalo News October 4, 2019 The seats inside KeyBank Center were empty when Ralph Krueger arrived in Buffalo for his first official day of work in June. The Sabres' new coach delivered an impassioned speech to team employees and spoke glowingly of the passionate fan base during his introductory news conference with the media. Krueger expressed excitement for the challenge ahead and the privilege of coaching a franchise that was held in high regard by friends and former colleagues, including Miroslav Satan and Uwe Krupp. Yet, Krueger wasn't interested in focusing on the past, specifically why the Sabres' playoff drought reached a National Hockey League-worst eight seasons.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips March 25, 2021 Sabres’ winless streak hits 15 as Penguins roll to 5-2 win By Will Graves Associated Press March 25, 2021 PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins are tired. They’re hurting. And in a way, they’re scrambling. Nothing a visit from the reeling Buffalo Sabres can’t fix. Sidney Crosby picked up his 13th goal of the season, Tristan Jarry stopped 26 shots and the Penguins extended Buffalo’s winless streak to 15 games with a 5-2 victory on Wednesday night. Evan Rodrigues, Kris Letang, John Marino and Zach Aston-Reese scored also for the Penguins, who recovered from a sluggish three-game set against New Jersey in which they managed just one victory by pouncing on the undermanned and overmatched Sabres. “We’re a close group, a very resilient group,” Marino said. “We’ve had a lot of come-from-behind wins, a lot of bounce-back wins (like tonight). It says a lot about the guys in the room.” Buffalo goalie Dustin Tokarski, making his first NHL start in more than five years with Carter Hutton out due to a lower-body injury, finished with 37 saves and kept the Sabres in it until late in the second period, when Marino and Aston-Reese scored just over 2 minutes apart to give the Penguins all the cushion required. Rasmus Dahlin scored his second goal of the season and Victor Olofsson beat Jarry on a penalty shot in the third period, but the NHL’s worst team remained in a tailspin.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips September 16, 2019 As preseason opens, Sabres will get lots of game action to test skills By Mike Harrington The Buffalo News September 15, 2019 The Buffalo Sabres are six practices over three days into the Ralph Krueger era and now they quickly transition to a different portion of their preseason with one main question: How does all this work translate to real game action? The answers will come fast and furious this week with four games in the next six nights. The Sabres open Monday at Pegula Ice Arena on the campus of Penn State with a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, followed by a trip to Columbus to meet the Blue Jackets on Tuesday. After an off day Wednesday and two more practices on Thursday comes back-to-back games against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The teams meet Friday night in Scotiabank Arena and stage Buffalo's exhibition home opener Saturday night in KeyBank Center. "We want to see the games settle the competition that we have but we have time," Krueger said after Sunday's two practices in the arena. "We're going to use these four games well to assess the group. We only have really one full practice day (this week) but I think we've done enough practicing and guys are ready to play." "Everybody is real excited," said C.J. Smith, who is battling for a spot on the wing. "He's simplified the game a lot to have guys trust their instincts and their hockey knowledge. It's giving guys confidence and letting them play with the puck instead of being forced to feel like you have to make a play in a certain system or have to be in a certain spot.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips March 9, 2021 Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin experiencing growing pains in new role on defense By Lance Lysowski The Buffalo News March 9, 2021 PHILADELPHIA – Rasmus Dahlin did not hang his head. He didn’t even glance at a group of New York Islanders swarming forward Matt Martin to celebrate their fifth goal Thursday night. Dahlin, now a 20-year-old defenseman and 164 games into a National Hockey League career that began with his selection first overall at the 2018 draft, skated toward the Buffalo Sabres’ bench and used his right hand to lift his stick in the air to signal for a line change. Martin, a fourth-line grinder known more for his right hook than scoring touch, had just skated by Dahlin and across the front of the Sabres’ net before jamming the puck past goalie Jonas Johansson to seal the Islanders' 5- 2 win. In years past, Dahlin’s frustration might have boiled over. One of the NHL’s bright young defensemen, Dahlin has grown accustomed to the sometimes overwhelming emotion that comes with failure. He’s experienced more than his fair share during his third season in the NHL. Entering Monday, Dahlin owned a league-worst minus-21 rating – on pace for minus-75 if this were an 82-game season – and advanced metrics illustrate how he’s struggling at times to adjust to a bigger role defensively. “It comes (down to forgetting) things, it comes (down) to working harder,” Dahlin said matter of factly. “You are allowed to get (upset) at yourself.
