Bierkens Department of Physical Geography Faculty of Geosciences Utrecht University 1 ABSTRACT A change in fresh surface water temperature influences biological and chemical parameters such as oxygen and nutrient availability, but also has major effects on hydrological and physical processes which include transport, sediment concentration, ice formation and ice melt. The thermal profile of fresh surface waters depends on meteorological and morphological characteristics. Climate change influences the water and energy budget and thereby also the thermal structure of fresh surface waters. The oceans temperature is influenced by the inflow of rivers and streams. The variations in fresh surface water temperatures are only known for a scarce amount of long term temperature records. The understanding of changes in thermal processes by modelling the variations in temperature over time is therefore very useful to simulate the global effect of climate change on water temperatures. A physical based model was validated with regional daily and global monthly water temperature data of fresh surface water which includes both rivers and lakes. The basic assumption for the PCR‐GLOBWB model is the assumption that the fresh surface water temperature is the net result of all incoming en outgoing fluxes. The global hydrological model PCR‐GLOBWB contains a water and heat budget. The heat balance is solved using the following terms: short‐wave insolation, long‐wave atmospheric radiation, water‐surface backscatter, evaporation, air/water conduction and can be simplified into lateral and advective energy. -

Email: [email protected] Abstract Thirty-eight species of oligochaetes (Annelida, Clitellata) belonging to five families were recorded from profundal bottoms of 50 freshwater lakes on Japanese islands. They were mostly widely distributed species, and the composition of fauna is basically explained by the scheme of Timm (2012), with parallel replacement of European species. Oxygen, temperature and surrounding fauna could be main factors determining the profundal fauna in the lakes. The lumbriculids (Styloscolex japonicus, Yamaguchia toyensis and Lumbriculus variegatus), haplotaxids (Haplotaxis gordioides) and enchytraeids (Marionina klaskisharum) were restricted to several deep and oligotrophic lakes located in Hokkaido and northern Honshu, where Rhyacodrilus komarovi often accompanied them. Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri was the commonest species, occurring irrespective of the trophic status and bottom temperature of the lake. Tubifex tubifex also occurred in wide trophic scale, but it has never been found in shallow eutrophic lakes where the bottom temperature exceeds 15°C, where L. hoffmeisteri, -

Genetically differentiated two types (designated by A and B) of the freshwater shrimp Palaemon paucidens in Japan have been determined by allozyme and 18S rDNA analyses. We analyzed mitochondrial 16S rDNA sequences of 120 type A and 49 type B individuals collected at 150 localities spanning Japan. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rDNA sequences was almost congruent with the results by 18S rDNA analysis, but specimens from Amami Islands previously designated by type A were revealed to be a distinct type (designated by type C). -

モニタリングサイト 1000 陸水域調査 湖沼・湿原 22000099--22001133 年年度度ととりりままととめめ報報告告書書 表紙写真 左列 ゾウミジンコモドキ属の一種(Bosminopsis sp.) ヨシ(Phragmites australis) マメシジミ(Pisidium sp.) 右列 ショウジョウバカマ(Heloniopsis orientalis) クンショウモの仲間(Pediastrum simplex) 尾瀬の池塘 はじめに 重要生態系監視地域モニタリング推進事業(以下「モニタリングサイト 1000」という)は、平 成 14 年 3 月に地球環境保全に関する関係閣僚会議にて決定された「新(第二次)生物多様性国家 戦略」に依拠して、平成 15 年度から開始した。平成 24 年 9 月に策定された「生物多様性国家戦 略 2012-2020」においても、2020 年度までの重点施策の基本戦略の中で、科学的基盤の強化のた めの施策の 1 つに「モニタリングサイト 1000」の実施が挙げられている。 本事業は、全国のさまざまなタイプの生態系(高山帯、森林・草原、里地里山、湖沼・湿原、 砂浜、磯、干潟、アマモ場、藻場、サンゴ礁、小島嶼)に 1000 箇所程度の調査サイトを設定し、 長期的に継続してモニタリングすることにより、生物種の減少などの生態系の変化をとらえ、適 切な生態系および生物多様性の保全施策につなげることを目的としている。 モニタリングサイト 1000 全体の調査設計は、各生態系において重要な機能を果たす指標生物群 の種組成や個体数などを定量的に調査し、生物多様性および生態系機能の状態を把握するもので ある。調査の実施にあたっては、関係する研究者や地域の専門家、NPO、市民ボランティアなど、 多様な主体の参加を得ており、このことは、調査の継続性を強化するとともに、迅速かつ精度の 高い情報の収集および利用を可能にしている。収集された情報は、蓄積・管理し、モニタリング サイト 1000 のウェブサイトなどを通じて広く一般に公開することにより、国はもちろん、地方自 治体、NPO、市民ボランティア、研究者、学校などにおいて幅広く活用されることを期待してい る。 陸水域では水資源の利用や農業といったさまざまな人間活動により、環境改変が進められてき た。特に湖沼では、このような人為的な改変に加え、また、地球温暖化の影響によって湖水の鉛 直混合が阻害され、湖水の循環様式の変化とそれにともなう生態系の変化が生じることも懸念さ れている。湿原では、タンチョウをはじめ希少な水鳥や動物たちの生息地が形成され、貴重な植 物が生育する。また、湿原は大量の水を蓄える役割や、過剰な栄養塩や有害物質を低減するなど の浄化機能を有する。しかし、一方では高層湿原の乾燥化にともなうササの侵入やシカによる湿 原植生の摂食にみられるような湿原生態系の劣化が大きな問題となっている。このように、陸水 域の環境は、既にさまざまな人為的な悪影響が認められているため、わが国の代表的な陸水域の 状態を、適切な手法で長期的にモニタリングすることは、異変をいち早く検出し、適切な自然環 境保全施策に資するために大きな役割を果たすと考えられる。 モニタリングサイト 1000 陸水域調査は、平成 19 年度よりモニタリングサイト 1000 推進検討会 の中の陸水域作業部会として開始された。翌年度の平成 20 年度からは、モニタリングサイト 1000 陸水域調査として陸水域検討会および湖沼分科会と湿原分科会が設置され、具体的なモニタリン グ手法や調査サイトを決定し、同年から平成 21 年度にかけては試行調査が行われた。平成 -

Geographical Variations in Body Size, Brood Size and Egg Size of a Freshwater Shrimp, Palaemon paucidens DE HAAN, with Some Discussion on Brood Habit*,** Machiko NISHINO Abstract The variations in body size, egg size and brood size of berried females among populations have not been known in Palaemon paucidens. These were examined among 28 local populations from various inland waters over its range of geographical distribution. Body size differs among the populations. Egg size is almost constant regardless of body size within a population, but differs among the popu- lations, and the largest from Lake Akan is about seven times as large as the smallest from Lake Biwa. Brood size increases with body size, however, relative brood size is almost similar within a population. Among the populations, mean brood size and mean relative brood size vary, but fall within a limited range, except for the mean relative brood size in Lake Biwa, which is exceptionally large. Relative brood weight is almost similar in a population, as well as mean relative brood weight among the populations. Thus, mean relative brood size is almost inversely proportional to mean egg size. A geographical trend is noticeable in the variations of these two values (i. e., larger mean egg size and smaller mean relative brood size in colder waters), except for the populations in Lake Biwa and two rivers of Boso. The small body size of the population in Lake Biwa can be related to its life history, in which a longer period is spent in colder conditions, and the high relative brood size can be regarded as its adaptive strategy of allocation.
