ALL-TIME OPPONENTS the Lady Tigers reach an impressive 17-14 overall record and 13-5 record in conference play. Two players were selected as All-SWAC performers – Jazmin Boyd (SWAC Freshman Alabama 0-1 Alabama A&M 3-0 of the Year) and Shakyla Hill (2nd Team All-SWAC). Hill was also selected as a 2nd Team Alabama State 2-1 BOXTOROW All-American. Coach Domond was selected as the SWAC Coach of the Year. Alcorn State 3-0 Murray was assistant women’s basketball coach at Florida A&M University from 2010- Arizona 0-1 Arkansas 0-1 2015. Murray assisted the FAMU Lady Rattler program to their best record in 2010 when Arkansas-Pine Bluff 2-0 they finished the season 22-8. During his time there he coached Antonia Bennett (2012) Arkansas State 0-1 Florida State 0-1 and Jasmine Grice (2014) to MEAC Player of the Year honors and later professional careers Fordham 0-1 overseas. Grice would ultimately go on to lead the nation in assist and finish in Top-10 in Jackson State 2-0 Louisiana-Monroe 2-0 scoring both achievements during the 2009 season. 9 GRAMBLING STATE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GRAMBLING STATE PICKED TO FINISH SECOND Shakyla Hill earns SWAC Preseason Player of the Year honors Grambling State University junior guard Shakyla Hill was chosen as the Southwestern Athletic Con- ference (SWAC) Preseason Player of the Year, while the Lady Tigers finished with four players named to the preseason all-conference teams. Grambling State was also selected to finish second in the preseason predicted order of finish behind Texas Southern, the league’s head coaches and sports information directors announced. Hill was the lone Lady Tigers player named to the SWAC Preseason First Team, while Jazmin Boyd, Monisha Neal and Jazmine Torian picked up Second-Team honors. As a sophomore, Hill was the only player in the league to rank in the top five in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and field goal percentage. She averaged 15.0 points to go with 7.8 boards per night, which was good for fifth and third in the conference respectively. The Little Rock, Ark., native led the league in assists (4.2), steals (3.0) and field goal percentage (48.2). Boyd was second on the team last season in points, averaging 11.8 per game. The Hat- tiesburg, Miss., native, who was an All-SWAC Second-Team performer last season, averaged 309 minutes, 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 31 games last season. Neal, who was third on the team in scoring, aver- aged 36.6 minutes, 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists in all 34 games last season. She posted a career-high 26 points on Jan. 21 against Jackson State. Torian was fourth on the team last season with 9.5 points per game. She averaged 22.8 minutes, 4.7 rebounds and nearly one assist in 31 games. The Lady Tigers, who picked up a No. 1 seed in last year’s SWAC Women’s Basketball Tournament, SHAKYLA HILL garnered 146 points and was just three points shy of Texas Southern (149) for the top spot. GRAMBLING STATE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL 2017-18 GRAMBLING STATE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GAME-BY-GAME GAME 17 TEXAS SOUTHERN 73, GRAMBLING STATE 63 Jazmin Boyd led three players into double figures with 13 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Grambling State University women’s basketball team dropped a 73-63 decision to Texas Southern in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. Texas Southern (8-8 overall, 3-2 in SWAC) took advantage of Grambling State’s (7-10, 4-2) 35.7 percent (5-of-14) shooting in the fourth quarter to take home the win. Boyd finished with 13 points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal. Shakyla Hill added 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Justice Coleman registered 10 points. Joyce Kennerson, the nation’s top scorer, paced Texas Southern with 23 points, four rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Kaitlyn Palmer contributed 20 points, three rebounds, three assists and one block. Taylor Robinson added 15 points, six rebounds and one block.

Turning Point The game was tied 49-49 at the end of the third, but Texas Southern took over the game in the fourth quarter. Boyd closed a seven-point gap to four points, 59-55, with 6:06 remaining after a 3-pointer, but Texas Southern answered with an 11-1 run, capped by a Robinson bucket with 2:10 left, giving TSU a 70-56 advantage. A 10-point game was as close as Grambling State got as they fell 73-63 in The Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
