This is not an exhaustive list of merchants operating in Canada that are classified with Eligible MCCs. In addition, other merchants may acquire an Eligible MCC and/or some may be removed from the Eligible MCC list of merchants from time to time, without notice. Even though some merchants may sell gas, grocery, and drug store merchandise, purchases made at these locations may not necessarily qualify as an Eligible MCC if the merchant is not classified as such by Visa. Also, you may make a purchase at a merchant that is not classified as an Eligible MCC but is located on the premises of a merchant that is classified as an Eligible MCC, in which case your purchase would not qualify as an Eligible MCC. It is important that we help our customers through this difficult time, and Amazonians are working around the clock to get necessary supplies delivered directly to the doorsteps of people and organisations who need them. Our Whole Foods Market stores have remained open, providing fresh food and other vital goods for customers. AMAZON EMPLOYEES RECEIVE comprehensive health benefits starting on day one of employment. We are working on building scalable testing for coronavirus. We’ve distributed face masks and implemented temperature checks at sites around the world to help protect employees and support staff, and offer free masks to our Whole Foods Market customers. We regularly sanitise door handles, stairway handrails, lockers, lift buttons and touch screens, and disinfectant wipes and hand sanitiser are standard across our network. We have also introduced extensive social distancing measures to help protect our associates. In all, we have made over 150 significant process changes in our operations network and Whole Foods Market stores, which we audit frequently, to help teams stay healthy. DURING THIS CRISIS, we’ve added 175,000 new jobs to help meet customer demand for essential products.

This includes Manitoba all Loblaw stores in Manitoba: Extra Foods, nofrills, Real Canadian Superstore, Shoppers Drug Mart and Wholesale Club. Effective August 24, the government of Newfoundland mandates the use of masks in all indoor public spaces. This includes Newfoundland all Loblaw stores in Newfoundland: Dominion, nofrills, Shoppers Drug Mart, Your Independent Grocer and Wholesale Club. Effective October 9, the government of New Brunswick mandates the use of masks in all indoor public spaces. In abrupt fashion, on February 3rd, Asheville, North Carolina-based Earth Fare announced it would halt business operations and close all 50 locations, joining two other once- Rocky Mountain 3 prominent and rising healthy foods chains shuttered in recent weeks. Colorado-based Lucky’s Market West 5 announced it would be closing the banner, excluding seven locations purchased by management, and Southwest 6 New York-based Fairway Market in January again filed for bankruptcy and is selling all stores. Northwest 8 In the days following both the Lucky’s and Fairway announcement many insiders eyed the Asheville- based organic, natural foods grocer as a potential benefactor, especially in the Florida market where Midwest 9 Lucky’s closed 20 of 21 stores, and Earth Fare had its own plans in the works for 50 locations alone in Distributor News 11 the state. However, the future now holds no new store openings, no further growth and uncertainty for Earth Fare’s reported 3,000 employees. The company began liquidation sales at all stores, which Earth Data Update 11 Fare has throughout 10 states, immediately after the news was announced. Oak Hill Capital Partners, a Food Policy 14 New York-based private equity firm, currently holds a majority stake in Earth Fare. Oak Hill had acquired the equity interest in 2012 from Monitor Clipper Partners, which had owned Earth Fare since Expo West 15 2006.

    - Advertisement - FreshCo discount banner expands June 16, 2020 Empire Co. Ltd. announced the next six locations for the expansion of its FreshCo discount banner in western Canada, including the first FreshCo locations in Alberta. With this announcement, the company has now confirmed 28 of approximately 65 locations in western Canada. In fiscal 2018, the company announced plans to convert approximately 25 percent of its underperforming Safeway and Sobeys locations to FreshCo over a five-year period. “Breaking ground in Alberta is a significant milestone in our western Canadian expansion. We have now opened or planned locations in every province in western Canada,” said Mike Venton, general manager of discount. “Our FreshCo expansion into western Canada is more relevant than ever before, as economic realities continue to shift. We are seeing a strong appetite for discount grocery options as the brand continues to resonate with the western Canadian shopper.” Since the first FreshCo opened in April 2019, the company has opened 14 FreshCo stores in British Columbia and two in Manitoba. By the end of the second quarter of fiscal 2021, the company plans to open two additional FreshCo stores in British Columbia and four in Saskatchewan. The company will work with the union that represents impacted employees in Manitoba to ensure that all terms of the collective agreements are met. Options will be provided, including the opportunity to work at Safeway stores within the network or the new FreshCo locations. The two Alberta FreshCo store locations announced are both located in Edmonton, in Heritage and Tamarack. The Tamarack location is a new construction site and the store is planned to open in Spring 2021.
