Communication from Public Name: Colleen Smith Date Submitted: 05/11/2021 11:21 AM Council File No: 20-1575 Comments for Public Posting: I would hope that banning certain devices used in rodeo would be the least of your concern. Given the absolutely abhorrent conditions that are currently plaguing your city and entire state, your efforts should be attempting to figure out your homeless problem!! Communication from Public Name: Date Submitted: 05/17/2021 01:38 PM Council File No: 20-1575 Comments for Public Posting: Please Do NOT Ban Rodeo and Bull Riding in Los Angeles! This ordinance is unnecessary – PBR already takes great care of the bulls!! - The health and safety of the animals in bull riding is paramount. These animal athletes get the best care and live a great life – extending four to five times as long as the average bull. - PBR stock contractors make their living by breeding, training, and working with their animal athletes. They truly love these animal athletes, treat them as a member of their own family, and have many safeguards in place to ensure their care. - The bulls in PBR are not wild animals forced to compete – they’re bred and trained for their jobs. Bulls buck because of their genetics. They are not abused or coerced to compete. The flank straps and dull spurs used in PBR do NOT harm the bulls. - In addition to bringing millions of dollars of economic impact to LA, bull riding teaches important values like hard work, charity, respect, responsibility, and honesty. The sport is inclusive and promotes equality.

That year he then qualified for his first NFR. Hailey Kinsel who also competed as an American qualifier, first won the 2017 American in barrel racing and continues to break records today as a WPRA and NFR World Champion.

For more information: Ruth Nicolaus (319) 321-2152 For Kansas’ Biggest Rodeo SETTING RECORDS, CROWNING CHAMPS Kansas bareback rider repeats title; world champion barrel racer sets arena record Phillipsburg, Kans. (August 7, 2021) – In the bareback riding, Kansas cowboy Jesse Pope won the Phillipsburg title for the second consecutive year. The 22-year-old cowboy rode Beutler and Son Rodeo’s Nutrena’s Election Day for 87.5 points and $2980. It was a full eight seconds, Pope said. “It felt like we were doing a lot of things. She’s a pretty small horse and really electric and she bucked hard. I had to sit on the gas pedal the whole time and wait for the buzzer.” A recent graduate of Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo., Pope is ranked seventh in the world standings after an outstanding summer. He sat out of rodeo for two months with a fractured L5 vertebrae that pinched a disk, but over the week preceding and following July 4, Cowboy Christmas, won $21,000, and in the month of July, won $50,000. Pope made a big impression at his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo last year, finishing as the average champion and third place in the world. Last year’s National Finals was a jumping off point for this year. “A lot of people didn’t know me, going into the Finals last year. I was feeling really going into it, and won the average. I’ve been building off of that. I took it, built a fire with it, and I’ve been putting gas on the fire every time I get on.” He loves coming to Kansas Biggest Rodeo.

Contact: Lauren N. Sides 210.765.0633 [email protected] Courtesy of the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo Susan Kanode [email protected] (817) 307-6336 Kinsel sets new barrel racing arena record at San Antonio Rodeo SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 21, 2018) – San Antonio rodeo fans got to see a barrel racing run that was one for the record books on Wednesday night. Hailey Kinsel, from Cotulla, Texas, has won a check every time that she and her great mare DM Sissy Hayday have entered the AT&T Center. They had a clean sweep of Bracket 1, started the Semifinals as high money winners and ended them that way. Kinsel and her seven-year-old palomino mare that she calls Sister won $7,134 in their bracket. Then a third-place check in the first round of the Semifinals got her an additional $2,230. Kinsel and Sister were the second barrel racers to compete in the AT&T Center on Wednesday night. They made a nearly flawless run, stopped the clock in 13.60 seconds to set a new arena record. The previous record of 13.67 seconds was set by Sydni Blanchard in 2013. “I grew up coming to this rodeo,” Kinsel said. “We always bought tickets and it was a dream to just compete here. I felt like we had a pretty snappy run, but to set an arena record here, that’s pretty special.” The Texas A&M graduate is the reigning National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association champion. She graduated last May, competed at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming in June and went on to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) last December where she finished the year as the reserve world champion.
