Top Ten Fashion Designers In a society where we are bombarded with fashion, how on earth do we decide who the top ten designers are? Well, after quite a lot of pondering, I came up with some names that I thought were a well-rounded group of creative minds. These are the best from all over the board. So here goes. 1. VALENTINO GARAVANI. From Italy, this man knows how to make a woman look like a goddess. Having dressed many of the world's most famous leading ladies (such as Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Taylor), he has proven his talent and risen to the top as The King of Elegance. 2. TOM FORD Born in Texas this man is not only the Creative Director for Gucci, he's also the Creative Director for Yves Saint Laurent. Ford won the Best International Designer Award in 2000. 3. DONATELLA VERSACE is one of fashions most loved divas. Born in Calabria Italy, she took over her late brother Gianni Versace's design house. By following in his footsteps Donatella has become known for her sexy yet elegant designs. 4. ALEXANDER MCQUEEN is one of the worlds most innovative and outstanding designers. Known for his theatrical influence, his creations are not only beautiful but also colourful and raw. 5. BETSEY JOHNSON. Her designs are brilliant, bold and fun. They are funky and edgy, with a lifetime of flare. Straight from the American fashion capital [New York] Betsey is known for "her celebration of the exuberant". 6. RALPH LAUREN. He could possibly be the king of ready-to wear. -

March 27, 2017 Macy’s and G-III Sign Exclusive Agreement for DKNY Women’s Apparel and Accessories NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Macy’s, Inc. Executive Summary The global fashion business is going through a period of intense change and competition, with disruption coming in many colors: global online marketplaces, slower growth, more startups and consumers who now seem bored by what once excited them. Many U.S. shoppers have grown tired of buying Prada and Chanel suits and prefer to spend their money on experiences rather than clothes. Questions about fashion companies’ labor and environmental practices are leading to new policies, although some critics remain unconvinced. Fashion still relies on creativity, innovation and consumer attention, some of which comes from technology and some from celebrities. Here are some key takeaways: High-fashion brands must now compete with “fast fashion,” apparel sold on eBay and vintage sites. Risk factors for fashion companies include China’s growth slowdown, reduced global trade, Brexit, terrorist attacks and erratic commodity prices. The Sun Also Rises A Book Catalogue from Capitol Hill Books and Riverby Books January 27, 2017 On Hemingway, the Lost Generation, Cocktails, and Bullfighting This winter, Shakespeare Theater Company will perform The Select, a play based on Ernest Hemingway’s iconic novel The Sun Also Rises. To kick off the performance, Capitol Hill Books and Riverby Books have joined forces to assemble a collection of books and other materials related to Hemingway and the “Lost Generation.” Our catalog includes various editions (rare, medium rare, and reading copies) of all of Hemingway’s major works, and many associated materials. For instance, we have a program from a 1925 bullfight in Barcelona, vintage cocktail books, a two volume Exotic Cooking and Drinking Book, and an array of books from Hemingway’s peers and mentors. On Jan. 27th, the Pen Faulkner Foundation, the Shakespeare Theater Company, and the Hill Center are hosting an evening retrospective of Hemingway’s writing. Throughout the evening, actors, scholars, and writers will read, praise, and excoriate Hemingway. Meanwhile mixologists will sling drinks with a Hemingway theme, and we will be there to discuss Gertrude Stein, bullfighting, Death in the Gulfstream, and to talk and sell books. All of the materials in this catalog will be for sale there, and both Riverby and Capitol Hill Books will have displays at our stores set up throughout the month of February. May 22, 2017 G-III Apparel Group Announces License Agreement with PVH Corp. for DKNY Menswear Collections in the U.S. and Canada -- Partnership Will Feature New Sport Category for DKNY Menswear -- NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- G-III Apparel Group, Ltd. (NASDAQ:GIII) announced today that it has entered into a multi- year license agreement with PVH Corp. (NYSE:PVH), under which PVH will design and distribute menswear for the DKNY brand in the United States and Canada. The license agreement includes DKNY Sport for Men, a new category for the brand. In addition, PVH has licensed rights for men's sportswear, dress shirts, neckwear and jeans. Morris Goldfarb, chairman and chief executive officer of G-III, commented, "This collaboration is an important step in the continued growth of DKNY and a clear example of the go-forward strategy to heighten this iconic brand. PVH is a trusted and powerful partner and we look forward to our continued success together." The Mini Skirt Danielle Hueston New York City College of Technology Textiles When I was six my mother and I took one of our weekly day shopping trips to the mall. On our way back we stopped at this local thrift store. This being one of the first times I had ever experienced one, everything seemed so different and weird, in a good way. I wasn’t used to there only being one of everything, or one store that sold clothes, books, toys, home decor and shoes.Walking down the ‘bottoms aisle’ is where I first came across it. It was black and flowy, probably a cotton material, with a black elastic band around the waist. I wanted it, I needed it. It was the perfect mini skirt. It reminded me of the one I saw Regina George wear in the Hallway Scene in the movie ‘Mean Girls’ a few months prior and had to get it, even though it was a “little” big. There was only one, I was going to make it work. When Monday came I wasted no time showing off my new skirt at school. It made me feel like a whole new person. At some point of the day however my teacher had stepped out of the room to talk to another teacher, in conjunction one of my classmates playfully grabbed my pencil out of my hand, to which I decided to chase him around the room to retrieve it back. I tripped and my skirt fell right to my ankles, in front of the entire class. -
