Football Club Years Of
125YEARS OF Cork Constitution FOOTBALL CLUB Edmund Van Esbeck Published by Cork Constitution Football Club, Temple Hill, Cork. Tel: 021 4292 563 i Cork Constitution Football Club wishes to sincerely thank the author, Edmund Van Esbeck and gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the following in the publication of this book: PHOTOGRAPHS Irish Examiner Archieve Sportsfile Photography Inpho Photography Colin Watson Photographey,Montreal, Canada John Sheehan Photography KR Events Martin O’Brien The Framemaker Club Members © Copyright held by suppliers of photographs GRAPHIC DESIGN Nutshell Creative Communication PRINTER Watermans Printers, Little Island, Co. Cork. ii AUTHORS NOTE & ACKNOWLEDGEMENT When the Cork Constitution Club celebrated the centenary of its foundation I had the privilege of writing the history. Now I have been entrusted with updating that chronicle. While obviously the emphasis will be on the events of the last twenty-five years - the most momentous period in the history of rugby union - as a tribute to the founding fathers, the first chapter of the original history will yet again appear. While it would not be practical to include a detailed history of the first 100 years chapter two is a brief resume of the achievements of the first fifty years and likewise chapter three embraces the significant events of the second fifty years in the illustrious history of one of Ireland’s great sporting institutions. There follows the detailed history and achievements, and they were considerable, of the last twenty five years. I owe a considerable debt of gratitude to many people for their help during the compilation of this book. In that regard I would particularly like to thank Noel Walsh, the man with whom I liaised during the writing of the book. -
Most Rev. Father Patrick Murray (1865-1959) Superior General, C.Ss.R., 1909-1947
RoBERT CuLHANE . MOST REV. FATHER PATRICK MURRAY (1865-1959) SUPERIOR GENERAL, C.SS.R., 1909-1947. BIOGRAPHICAL OUTLINE OVER THE YEARS I865-1909. INTRODUCTION. Sir Peter Lely was at his best when painting court beauties. He knew, too, how to play his cards with people that mattered. A favourite at the court of Charles I and of Charles II; he was still in favour during the Commonwealth. During this period his ability and tact stood one unusual test. Oliver Cromwell (according to a story evidently not maimed in the telling) charged him to include in· his portrait cc all these roughnesses, pim ples, and watts, and everything you see, otherwise I will never pay a farthing for it ». Father Patrick Murray was obliged to suffer the attentions of a photo grapher on a few occasions. Nothing would have annoyed him more than :> literary portrait, especially one leaning somewhat on his merits. cc 1 know n he said once, « that a necrology, with an account of one's virtues, is prescribed but I do hope that I will be spared one n. Fortunately in the past obedience to like wishes has been more honoured in the breach than in the observance. Had it not been so the world would have been the poorer for much of the literature that has nourished and improved millions. Literature is meant to express excellence. Let it not be thought for a moment that literature, even of the humblest type, is offered in the following pages. Apart from other considerations the circumstances of their composi tion prevent any such claim. -

GUIDE to Belfast
OFFICIAL LEINSTER SUPPORTERS CLUB Ulster v Leinster Saturday, 27th April 2019 KO: 5:15pm GUIDE TO Belfast 1 Introduction Belfast ( Béal Feirste) is a city on the banks of the River Lagan on the east coast of Ireland. It is the largest city in Northern Ireland and second largest on the island of Ireland. It has a population of 295,000 according to 2018 records. Throughout the 21st century, the city has seen a sustained period of calm, free from the intense political violence of former years and has benefited from substantial economic and commercial growth. Belfast remains a centre for industry, as well as the arts, higher education, business, and law, and is the economic engine of Northern Ireland. Belfast is still a major port, with commercial and industrial docks dominating the Belfast Lough shoreline, including the Harland and Wolff shipyard. Belfast is the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, which famously struck an iceberg and sunk in 1912. This legacy is recalled in the renovated dockyards’ Titanic Quarter, which includes the Titanic Belfast, an aluminium-clad museum reminiscent of a ship’s hull, as well as shipbuilder Harland & Wolff’s Drawing Offices and the Titanic Slipways, which now host open-air concerts. Harland & Wolff was once the largest ship yards in the world. Getting to Belfast The OLSC is running same day Aircoach services to Kingspan Stadium for the game. Seats must be prepaid in advance by sending €20pp to [email protected] via Paypal quoting ULSTER BUS, your name, email address and a mobile number. Match tickets are not included and are the responsibility of supporters. -
