The forum will be held Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Shakespeare Theatre at SCVi in Castaic. “We are humbled and grateful to have all four Hart School Board candidates visiting us this Thursday, giving our families a valuable opportunity to participate in the electoral process,” SCVi Charter School officials said in a news release. “Come hear how each candidate plans to represent our learning community. We look forward to seeing you.” The community is welcome to participate and hear about topics impacting SCVi and other schools in the district. “At SCVi, we strive to create opportunities for our learners to have voice and choice and are grateful that the candidates are giving a real world opportunity for our kids to participate in the electoral process,” said Amber Raskin, founder of SCVi Charter School and iLead Schools. Incumbent Gloria Mercado­Fortine and Linda Storli are looking to fill the seat for Trustee Area 1, which includes parts of Castaic, Valencia and Val Verde. Incumbent Steve Sturgeon and Andrew Taban are looking to fill the seat for Trustee Area 4, which includes parts of Canyon Country. The election for the two seats is set to be held on Nov. 3.     11/08/19 BOT Chancellor's Report 2 BOYKIN RECEIVES STATE RENOVATION FUNDING COC was pleased to receive state funding to begin planning much needed renovations to Boykin Hall, our 44 year-old science lab facility on the Valencia Campus. Thanks to the efforts of Senator Scott Wilk and Assemblywoman Christy Smith the 2019-20 state budget includes $397,000 from Prop. 51 that will fund preliminary plans and working drawing for the renovation project. The total cost of the Boykin Hall modernization is $9.4 million. Of that, the state is expected to provide an additional $4.4 million in Prop. 51 funding in the 2020-21 budget. Public testimony at the hearing and the inquiries of some of the Hearing Board members raised questions about the potential health impacts of the operation of the Chiquita Canyon Landfill, as well as any potential impacts on housing values. Chiquita submits the attached EIR and appendices to assist in the Hearing Board’s evaluation of this matter. The EIR (Attachment 1) was prepared to satisfy Los Angeles County’s obligations under the California Environmental Quality Act to consider the potential environmental impacts of a project subject to its discretionary approval. Los Angeles County adopted the attached EIR when approving Chiquita’s most recent Conditional Use Permit (“CUP”) renewal on July 25, 2017. The EIR evaluated Chiquita’s proposed project, which was much larger than what was approved. Chiquita would like to specifically draw the Hearing Board’s attention to three assessments contained within the EIR. A Health Risk Assessment (“HRA”) was conducted to evaluate any potential increase in cancer risk in the surrounding community from continued operation of the Chiquita Canyon Landfill.

Hart Union High School District Vol. IX, No. 7 Christine Parr County Teacher of the Year Honoree Christine Parr, an English language development teacher at Placerita Junior High School, has been selected as one of 16 Los Angeles County Teachers of the Year, representing the profession’s “best of the best” in the largest honors competition for educators in the state. Selected by her peers at Placerita, Christine was chosen to represent the Hart District in County competition. L.A. County’s winners automatically advance with other county titlists from around the state to the California Teachers of the Year competition this fall. The state is scheduled to announce its five co-winners in November, and one of those state co- winners will be chosen to represent California in the National Teacher of the Year contest next spring. Christine was featured in an interview on NBC’s Telemundo Spanish-language station featuring her work with English learners and their families. Aronsky Named Business Teacher of Year Jeffrey Aronsky, business teacher at La Mesa Junior High School, has been named California Middle School Business Educator of the Year for 2007-08 by the California Business Education Association. Aronsky was selected for his outstanding and innovative contributions to business education both in his classroom and on the state and local levels. He brought the Stock Market Game to the Hart District over five years ago and has many local schools participating in the program.   • Renaming of Central Park
    Renaming of Central Park Report from Director Ed Colley I was asked to serve on an ad hoc committee that considered a proposal from the City to memorialize two children who were victims of the shooting at Saugus High School a year ago. I provide this report. The facts expressed are consistent with my own knowledge; the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I join in the recommendation supported by the majority of the committee to reject the proposal from the City of Santa Clarita to rename Central Park as well as the proposed changes to the signs at the entrance to the park. The facts are tragic and reveal a strong and supportive community. On November 14, 2019, a young man brought a handgun to the Saugus High School campus shortly before the beginning of the regularly scheduled school day. He and other children gathered in an open area in the center of campus as they would on any other day to wait for the beginning of their classes. He took out his gun and shot others, cleared a jam, and continued shooting before ultimately turning the gun on himself. He and two other children died, and several others were physically injured. Many children suffered mental injuries, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and similar issues. In the days and months following the shooting the community has reacted in many ways. In support of the victims of the shooting a large candlelight vigil at Central Park was attended by hundreds of students and community members. A campaign designed to support, memorialize, and aid in healing, titled "Saugus Strong," has had wide support.

CLWA is the CEQA lead agency and must adopt the IS/MND and Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Program (MMRP) prior to approving the Project for design. Staff recommends that the Committee review the IS/MND and MMRP and recommend that the Board of Directors adopt the attached resolution approving the IS/MND and MMRP. DISCUSSION Background and Project Description: The Draft Recycled Water Master Plan (Draft RWMP) sets forth a plan to expand the recycled water system in the Santa Clarita Valley to offset potable water demands. The existing recycled water system is referred to as Phase 1 and provides approximately 450 acre-feet per year (afy) of recycled water to golf courses and median landscapes. Phase 2 includes four separate phases (2A, 2B, 2C and 2D) that will expand the recycled water system to the east, west and south portions of the Santa Clarita Valley. The Central Park Recycled Water Main Extension (Phase 2A) Project will provide recycled water to the service areas of Santa Clarita Water Division (SCWD) and Valencia Water Company (VWC) by using recycled water from the Valencia Water Reclamation Plant (WRP).
