After clearing customs and immigration you will be met, assisted and transferred to your hotel. Meal(s) Included: Dinner 3 RISE TO FREEDOM TOUR – SOWETO – APARTHEID MUSEUM Rivonia Guest June 10th House You will enjoy a full day “Rise to Freedom” tour to get an intimate understanding of South Africa's turbulent past. Visit important monuments of South Africa as you learn about the history which once tore this country apart. Tour Constitution Hill, the site of the Old Fort Prison Complex, commonly known as “Number Four” which at the height of apartheid rule, saw up to 2000 Black South Africans processed through its entrance daily. The site is now a museum. In Soweto observe: • The Hector Petersen Memorial, the spot where 12 year-old Hector was shot during the Soweto uprisings. • Regina Mundi Church. The church was a meeting place for activists deprived of any other place to meet. It played a role in Soweto's most significant day, when students, revolting against the imposition of Afrikaans’ teaching by the apartheid government, ran into the church. They were followed by police, who shot and injured many, firing teargas and damaging the marble altar and the figure of Christ, the bullet holes are still visible in the ceiling. • Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the largest hospital in the world, named in honor of the African National Congress leader who was assassinated in 1993. • Mandela's House, comprising four inter-leading rooms, containing an assortment of memorabilia, paintings and photographs of the Mandela family as well as a collection of honorary doctorates bestowed on Nelson Mandela from universities and institutions around the world. • Freedom Square, the place where the Freedom Charter was adopted as the guiding document of the government. • Enjoy lunch at a local Restaurant in Soweto. • Apartheid Museum Meal(s) Included: Breakfast & Dinner 4 FULL DAY PILANESBERG NATIONAL PARK & LESEDI CULTURAL VILLAGE Rivonia Guest June 11th House Pick up at 5am from the hotel, drive to Pilanesberg National Park for a safari. Pilanesberg boast the healthy population of lions, buffaloes, leopards, elephants, black and white rhinos – Africa’s Big Five. Wide range of rare and common species of wildlife including the brown hyena, sable, wild dogs, cheetah, giraffe and hippos just to name a few. Bird watching is excellent with over 360 species of birds. After lunch drive to Lesedi Cultural Village with the option for stopping at the African Market for you to buy some souvenirs. Upon arrival at Lesedi, receive a welcome to the Ndebele village before settling down to a multimedia presentation on the history of South Africa's rainbow nation. Go on a guided tour of each of the cultural villages, learn the various rituals and folklore of South Africa's people, plus a few key phrases in local languages. Traditional song and dance rounds off the day's activities, followed by a dinner buffet of African fare fit for a king, hosted in the 200-seater Nyama Choma restaurant, with a wide variety of meats such as impala, ostrich or crocodile meat. At the end of the evening, gather around the open fire to listen to tales of African mythology, or be escorted back to your cozy hut by members of the host family. Overnight return to Johannesburg. Meal(s) Included: Breakfast & Dinner 6 ROBBEN ISLAND – CAPE TOWN TOWNSHIPS TOUR Protea June 13th Seapoint After breakfast, take the ferry to Robben Island, the former prison of Nelson Mandela, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. This afternoon, go on a guided tour of Cape Town Townships, an opportunity to interact with different Communities – visit Langa, Cape Town’s oldest formal township, gaining insights into the legacy of apartheid and the country’s struggle for democracy. In Gugulethu township, visit a community-driven project and observe crafters at work. You will also tour Khayelitsha, Cape Town’s largest informal settlement. This evening, a special dinner at the Township accompanied with music and poetry. You will be invited to display your artistic and musical skills. Meal(s) Included: Breakfast & Dinner 7 BOULDER BEACH & CAPE POINT Protea June 14th Seapoint Early morning tour of Table Mountain. Ride the state-of-the-art cable car that rotates 360 degrees on its way to the top, offering a panoramic view of The City. Continue along the Atlantic coastline to Hout Bay, a quaint fishing village best known as the entry point to the Cape fur seal colony of Duiker Island. Stop and visit the local craft stores and an optional cruise to Duiker Island to view the lazy Cape Fur seals as they laze about and soak up the sun’s rays. Continue along the world-renowned magnificent Chapman’s Peak. Drive through the quaint seaside village of Scarborough to Cape of Good Hope in the Table Mountain National Park. Enjoy complimentary tea/ coffee and biscuits at the much photographed Cape of Good Hope sign-board before driving further to eventually hop onto the Flying Dutchman Funicular (cost included) to go up to the incredibly beautiful view point around the base of the old Cape Point lighthouse. Lunch will be at Seaforth near Boulders. Their fish and chips are always a winner, but so is the rest of the menu. Enjoy a scenic drive back to Cape town past the Botanical Gardens.
