Washington has won four straight in the series to take a 7-5-1 lead, winning a home-and-home back in 1999-2000 and both games in Pac-12 play since a 33-21 Buff win over UW in the ’96 Holiday Bowl … This is the fourth time since joining the Pac-12 that the Buffaloes will have back-to-back conference games on the road; CU has split one of those (L at UCLA, W at Utah in 2011) and have lost both the other two times …. It was feast or famine for UCLA, as the Bruins gained 317 yards on its 15 plays of 10 yards or longer, most significantly a 76-yard touchdown pass. The other 42 plays gained just 95 yards, or just 2.3 per; so if it appears the Buffs do seem to get a good number of stops, the math backs it up. In the previous week’s 44-20 loss to Arizona, the Wildcats also capitalized on the big play: it had the most 20-plus plays of the year against the Buffs (10; CU had allowed 30 in the first six games of the season). Those 10 plays gained a whopping 373 yards (or 37.3 per), while the other 72 the ‘Cats ran gained 292, or 4.1 per. OBSCURE NOTE OF THE WEEK Jinx Alert: Colorado running backs haven’t fumbled the ball a single time in 2013, as the coaches have improved the ball security all around (CU has only eight fumbles total in as many games). Christian Powell (104 rushes, 108 total touches), Michael Adkins II (65, 73), Tony Jones (51, 60) and Donta Abron (14, all rushes) have combined for 234 rushing attempts and 255 total touches without coughing up the ball.     Big 12 Conference Schools Raise Nine-Year NFL Draft Totals to 277 Alumni Through 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Apr. 26, 2003 DALLAS—Big 12 Conference teams had 10 of the first 62 selections in the 35th annual NFL “common” draft (67th overall) Saturday and added a total of 13 for the opening day. The first-day tallies in the 2003 NFL draft brought the number Big 12 standouts taken from 1995-03 to 277. Over 90 Big 12 alumni signed free agent contracts after the 2000-02 drafts, and three of the first 13 standouts (six total in the first round) in the 2003 draft were Kansas State CB Terence Newman (fifth draftee), Oklahoma State DE Kevin Williams (ninth) Texas A&M DT Ty Warren (13th). Last year three Big 12 standouts were selected in the top eight choices (four of the initial 21), and the 2000 draft included three alumni from this conference in the first 20. Colorado, Nebraska and Florida State paced all schools nationally in the 1995-97 era with 21 NFL draft choices apiece. Eleven Big 12 schools also had at least one youngster chosen in the eight-round draft during 1998. Over the last six (1998-03) NFL postings, there were 73 Big 12 Conference selections among the Top 100. There were 217 Big 12 schools’ grid representatives on 2002 NFL opening day rosters from all 12 members after 297 standouts from league members in ’02 entered NFL training camps—both all-time highs for the league. Nebraska (35 alumni) was third among all Division I-A schools in 2002 opening day roster men in the highest professional football configuration while Texas A&M (30) was among the Top Six in total NFL alumni last autumn.

    DIVISION I 103 Outdoor Track and Field DIVISION I 2001 Championships OUTDOOR TRACK Highlights Volunteers Are Victorious: Tennessee used a strong performance from its sprinters to edge TCU by a point May 30-June 2 at Oregon. The Volunteers earned their third title with 50 points, as the championship-clinching point was scored by the 1,600-meter relay team in the final event of the meet. Knowing it only had to finish the event to secure the point to break the tie with TCU, Tennessee’s unit passed the baton careful- ly and placed eighth. Justin Gatlin played the key role in getting Tennessee into position to win by capturing the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Gatlin was the meet’s only individual double winner. Sean Lambert supported Gatlin’s effort by finishing fourth in the 100. His position was another important factor in Tennessee’s victory, as he placed just ahead of a pair of TCU competitors. Gatlin and Lambert composed half of the Volunteers’ 400-meter relay team that was second. TCU was led by Darvis Patton, who was third in the 200, fourth in the long jump and sixth in the 100.
