View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by K-State Research Exchange LOST AND FOUND: DIFFERENT INTEGRATION PATTERNS OF THE SUDANESE LOST BOYS LIVING IN KANSAS CITY AREA AFTER RESETTLEMENT. by DANVAS OGETO MABEYA B.A., United States International University-Africa, 1997 M.A., United States International University-Africa, 2001 M.A., Kansas State University, 2004 AN ABSTRACT OF A DISSERTATION submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work College of Arts and Sciences KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY Manhattan, Kansas 2011 Abstract The United States has resettled unaccompanied minors before. In the 1960s and 1970s, minors from Indochina were resettled in the United States. In the 1970s, the U.S accepted 14,000 unaccompanied minors from Cuba through Operation Peter Pan. Many of these Cuban minors, aged five to eighteen, were sent to the United States by parents fearing their children would be indoctrinated in communist schools. In the case of these minors, they arrived in the United States with the consent of their still-living family members. In contrast, about 3,500 Sudanese Lost Boys were resettled in the United States in 2000, and more recently in 2010, 53 “lost children” from Haiti were brought to the United States following a devastating earthquake. This study investigated the integration and assimilation patterns of the Sudanese Lost Boys in the Kansas City area with the purpose of understanding the sociological impact on these Boys from their own perspective. As opposed to previous studies done on these Boys in Kansas and other areas in the United States, the present study used interview-based research and analyzed data using both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.

  • The Perfect Son Synopsis
The Perfect Son Theo (David Cubitt – Medium, Traders, Ali), a thirty-year-old writer fresh out of rehab and struggling to put his life together, resurfaces in time for his father’s funeral. After having avoided the family for years, he is now reunited with his older more responsible brother Ryan (Colm Feore – The Red Violin, The Borgias, Amazing Spiderman 2), a conservative lawyer. At best unreliable in the past, Theo now makes an effort to rebuild the relationships he destroyed particularly with his ex-girlfriend, Sarah (Chandra West – Played, Salton Sea), a driven medical intern. A night of drunken passion ensues, but Sarah still has her doubts and their relationship remains on the rocks. Meanwhile the estranged brothers are forced to deal with one another but the same divisions are strong and the same old rivalries remain. Then by accident, Theo discovers one of Ryan secrets – Ryan is gay and is dying of AIDS. Suddenly, things change and Theo is drawn into Ryan’s life, discovering a person he barely knew; an unexpectedly loving and galvanizing relationship begins. What does it take to reconcile a lifetime of differences? The Perfect Son explores the meaning of responsibility and the challenge of overcoming the past. Alternating between humorous and deeply moving moments, this is ultimately an intimate chamber piece featuring inspiring performances by two of Canada’s best actors. Feore mixes an arrogant coolness with a sweet vulnerability and Cubitt’s charisma radiates. The Perfect Son is a journey that deals with attaining acceptance within the most inescapable social group of all – the family.

THE FOUR LEGENDARY KINGDOMS PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Matthew Reilly | 448 pages | 03 Nov 2016 | Orion Publishing Co | 9781409167112 | English | London, United Kingdom The Four Legendary Kingdoms PDF Book I guess this is what happens when you are a mood reader - you buy a book in a favorite series by your favorite author and leave it on your bookshelf for two years without even trying to read. After all of the members of the Four Kingdoms once again watched with interest the outcome of the Fourth Challenge, Hades decided to hold a luncheon so that all four of the Kings could dine with their remaining Champions before the Fifth Challenge began, and some of the closest members of the Kingdoms to the Kings also attended. The least interesting? The New York Public Library: a year-old labyrinth of towering bookcases, narrow aisles and long hallways. But the bigger surprise and initial disappointment for me was that the four kingdoms weren't outlined on the inside jacket of the book like the previous entries in the series. Now, in , another Tartarus Rotation is due, and whoever places the reconstructed Capstone on the pyramid in time will gain absolute earthly power. The group is addressed by a man calling himself Hades , who announces that the sixteen men are the sixteen champions chosen to take part in the Hydra Games. Plus it gives us so many awesome moments. A mysterious ceremony in an unknown location has triggered a catastrophic countdown that will climax in no less than the end of all life on Earth.
