Who wouldn’t want to escape the cold winter and head to Vegas for a few days of discussion, networking and celebrating? If that sounds like a good idea, then ClexaCon may be for you. ClexaCon is the first media and entertainment convention for LGBTQ women and allies, and it’s going to be held March 3-5, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV. There will be featured guests from television and film, including Dominique Provost-Chalkley and Katherine Barrell from Wynonna Earp, Person of Interest‘s Amy Acker, Bomb Girls’ Ali Liebert, Carmilla’s Elise Bauman and Natasha Negovanlis and Lost Girl favorites Zoie Palmer and Rachel Skarsten, as well as networking events, panels, workshops and autograph sessions. For the Toronto born Skarsten, the decision to attend was a no-brainer. “What reason is there to not want to be a part of it,” Skarsten tells The TV Junkies. The actress, who in addition to Lost Girl has also been on Flashpoint, The LA Complex and Beauty and the Beast and currently plays Queen Elizabeth on Reign. “I’ve been very lucky to play some badass women,” she says. Thanks to those women and the shows she’s been a part of, Skarsten is no stranger to fan conventions. “Unlike theater, film and TV actors don’t have the privilege of seeing their audiences’ reactions. There’s such a wonderful energy in that reciprocity. It’s a big part of why I love being an actor,” explains Skarsten. She loves getting to meet fans face to face, and says conventions such as ClexaCon are “a lovely opportunity to experience how they [fans] feel about the show. I’m also deeply touched by and grateful for all the love they give. It really blows me away much of the time.” Another fun aspect of ClexaCon for Skarsten will be getting to reunite with Lost Girl co-star Zoie Palmer and former Lost Girl and current Wynonna Earp showrunner Emily Andras for a panel. There they will discuss the impact the series had as far as LGBTQ representation in mainstream media. For Skarsten, she recalls that she “was glad to be on a show that didn’t make a thing of it. You love who you love. Plain and simple.” Being a part of the show, which she refers to as “basically summer camp,” was also a highlight for Skarsten because of the cast. She says that she “got to play dress up with my friends, then hang out with them on breaks. I felt very blessed.” So what about those “CopDoc” fans happy to see Skarsten and Palmer, aka Tamsin and Lauren, reunited? Well Skarsten counts herself among the ‘shippers, joking that she ships “anything that involves Zoie Palmer.” But ClexaCon isn’t the only thing keeping Skarsten busy as of late. She is also getting set for the fourth and final season as Queen Elizabeth on the CW’s Reign. The last season, which will consist of 16 episodes, premieres on Friday, February 10 at 9 p.m. Will that be enough time for fans to get a proper ending? “Yes, and no,” says Skarsten, before going on to explain that “we tried our best, but there wasn’t, and never is, enough time.” She adds that “selfishly, I wanted one more season for Elizabeth,” explaining that “in the final episodes of this last season she really comes into her own, inhabiting her power.” So if you’re a fan of Skarsten’s, Lost Girl or Reign there is good news. Tickets are still available for ClexaCon and there’s plenty of time left to join the Vegas party. All information about Skarsten’s appearance as well as other guests, speakers, panels, autograph sessions and special events can be found at the ClexaCon official website..
