In addition, Dickerson was named one of 20 semifinalists this week for the ‘Premier Player of College Baseball,’ a fan voted accolade presented by Premier Players, Inc. COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH Indiana has made winning games in the late innings commonplace. The Hoosiers have won 10 games when either tied or trailing in the eighth inning. From the eighth inning and beyond, Indiana is outscoring the compeition by 31 runs. The late inning heroics have played a large role in IU’s 6-2 extra innings record. When the game extends 13 or more frames, the Hoosiers are unbeaten at 3-0. STAY PUT The Hoosiers have picked off 28 runners, the most in the Big Ten by a long shot. The next closest conference school has totaled 12 pick offs. Indiana’s Joey DeNato has pegged 11 runners alone. FAST OUT OF THE BOX Freshman Dustin DeMuth is arguably the fastest Hoosier, evidenced by his team-leading 19 infield hits. DeMuth is regularly timed getting down the first-base line in a blazing 3.64-3.65 seconds. BIG TEN WEEKLY ACCOLADES Indiana has been represented in Big Ten Weekly Awards nine times this season. Dustin DeMuth is the most recent Hoosier recognized by the conference office, earning his third Freshman of the Week accolade on May 16. Joey DeNato was a dual-winner on May 9, taking both the Pitcher and Freshman titles. He also won the confer- enece’s Freshman of the Week award (Apr. 18). Micah Johnson and Alex Dickerson were eached named the Player of the Week on March 28 and March 21, respectively. Ty Downing was selected back on Feb. 28 for the Freshman laurel. BULLPEN PUTS TOGETHER AN IMPRESSIVE STREAK Earlier this season the Hoosier bullpen strung together 27 consecutive innings of shutout baseball; a streak that spanned four different games. IGEL’S PERFORMANCE GARNERS NATIONAL PUB Junior left-hander Matt Igel’s stellar play in the Hoosiers’ 2-1, 16-inning road victory over #18 Coastal Carolina did not go unnoticed by the national media. CollegeBase- ball360 selected him as one of five semifinalists for their `Primetime Pitcher of the Week’ award.

Igel played a huge role as Indiana gutted out a the four-hour-and-31-minute marathon, picking up a win over a top-20 opponent. He came into the game with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning with the score tied at 1-1 and a Chanticleer in scoring position. After quickly disposing of the next batter to end the threat, Igel remained on the mound for the next four innings. In total, the Vincennes, Ind., native worked the bump for 4.1 shutout innings, allowing just three hits. Igel combined with two other Hoosier relievers for 11 straight innings of shutout baseball. PRESEASON PROGNOSTICATION Indiana was picked to finish third in the first ever Big Ten Coaches Preseason Poll. Defending regular season and conference tournament champion Minnesota was tabbed the league’s favorite while Michigan came in at No. 2.

Individually, Alex Dickerson, Drew Leininger and Jerrud Sabourin have all received some preseason love from several sources. In addition to being named a preseason All-American by nearly every publication, Dickerson also made a clean sweep of all hitting superlatives voted on by nine of the league’s 10 coaches in a CollegeBasebal- lInsider.com survey. In that same survey, Leininger was tabbed as one of the Big Ten’s “Top Three Starting Pitchers” and while Sabourin came in right behind Dickerson as the conference’s second-best “Pure Hitter.” FRIDAY UPDATES ARCHIVED, SKIP’S SCOOP BEGINS Over 20 twenty episodes of ‘Friday Updates,’ a weekly video blog looking inside the Hoosier Baseball program, have been archived at IUHoosiers.com. Starting on Mon., Feb. 21, IU fans can tune into IUHoosiers.com’s newest weekly show, ‘Skip’s Scoop,’ airing each Monday throughout the 2011 season. MICAH MIGRATING TO MIDDLE INFIELD 2010 Freshman All-American Micah Johnson is picking up a new position this season after manning the hot corner for all 55 games last season. The sophomore from Indianapolis will be looked about to turn some double plays at second base this year. YOU GOT NEXT? Head Coach Tracy Smith and his staff brought in five pitchers this season that might be mistaken for a basketball team. Freshmen Aaron Slegers and Eric Kartman come in measuring 6-foot-9 and 6-foot-8, respectively. Vincennes University transfer Chad Martin comes to Bloomington at a towering 6’7’’ while freshman Ryan Halstead stretched the ruler to 6-foot-4. Rounding out the starting hoops line-up would be a “short” Reed Reznicek at 6’2’’. HITTING IN THE GRIDIRON Members of the Indiana Basbeall team have already won one championship this season, taking home the Intramural Flag Football title of the most competive division on campus for the second straight season. Quarterbacking the back-to-back champion “Team Baseball” flag football squad has been IU Baseball Head Coach Tracy Smith.
