Tim Sheridan, the Minister for Finance would like to provide the community with an update on the proposed introduction of municipal rates on Norfolk Island. The Norfolk Island Government is required under the Funding Agreement with the Commonwealth to develop a municipal rating strategy and the implementation of municipal rates was linked to the grant funding for the Cascade Pier project by Minister Briggs in February 2014. “A municipal rating strategy has been developed that provides for a model unique to Norfolk Island. The model is a levy system in which income raised is more directly focused on the provision of government services.
