    Coalpit Heath – FAQs Introduction The Council is beginning the process of producing a new Local Plan that will guide planning decisions across South Gloucestershire over the coming years. The South Gloucestershire Local Plan will be informed in part by the final Joint Spatial Plan (JSP), which is being produced by the four West of England councils (South Glos, Bristol City, Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset). The JSP will identify areas known as Strategic Development Locations (SDLs), which will describe where larger scale growth should happen to accommodate growing populations and the need for space to build businesses and employment opportunities. The updated draft of the JSP is expected to be published for a final round of public consultation this winter. Although the JSP is still in draft form, South Gloucestershire Council is keen to begin the process of producing its new Local Plan as good planning requires that local communities are consulted early and kept well informed about how they would like new development to come forward. This is one of five locations in South Gloucestershire: Charfield, Coalpit Heath, Buckover Garden Village, Thornbury, Yate and Chipping Sodbury, identified as potential suitable and sustainable locations for new strategic development in the current draft JSP. Events are now planned around those key areas.   • Covid Weekly Testing Unit Hawkesbury Village Hall
    Twice Weekly Covid-19 Testing Kits Will Be Available Through Mobile Facility in Communities Across South Gloucestershire We are introducing a mobile option that will take rapid (lateral flow) asymptomatic testing kits to communities across South Gloucestershire, as part of our support for all residents over the age of 16 without symptoms, who are now being encouraged to take twice weekly tests. A specially equipped vehicle will visit up to 14 locations across the district each week, giving people the option of collecting testing kits to complete at home, as well as the opportunity to take a test with guidance from trained staff if you are unfamiliar with the process. This programme will begin on Saturday 15 May, with visits to Kingswood and Thornbury High Streets. Testing is a central pillar, alongside the continued roll-out of the vaccine, and effective local contact tracing including supporting those who need to self-isolate, that will mean we can live safely with Covid-19 over the coming months. Together these steps, combined with individuals following the guidance on social distancing, hand hygiene, face coverings and fresh air, will help us along the road map out of restrictions and enable us to live safely with the coronavirus into the future. The Government is encouraging all residents over the age of 16, who do not have Covid-19 symptoms, to make regular, twice weekly testing, using rapid home test kits, part of their routine as we enjoy the increased opportunities to get out and mix safely with more people. The mobile offer will visit sites across the district regularly, including rural areas such as Hawkesbury, Marshfield, Severn Beach and Pucklechurch, as well as communities in Thornbury, Charfield, Cadbury Heath, Emersons Green and Patchway.

  • Design Statement
    PARISH OF OLVESTON – DESIGN STATEMENT OLVESTON, TOCKINGTON, OLD DOWN, INGST, LOWER HAZEL, AWKLEY The Design Statement was written, edited and produced by the Olveston Parish Design Team – an independent group of local volunteers. In January 2002 a public meeting was called by Olveston Parish Conservation Society to discuss inappropriate development in the Parish. Over 115 parishioners attended the meeting. The meeting concluded that the preparation of a Village Design Statement would be a practical step the community could take to set out design principles for new development which would be more in keeping with the character of the parish. A Working Group was established and a questionnaire, seeking views on development related issues, was distributed to all 743 households. Over 30% of households responded. A Web Site was created and drafts of the design statement posted on it. A Community Workshop was held to report findings and to discuss key issues emerging. In January 2003 a full draft of the Design Statement was put on display in the Parish Hall (25th January 2003). All households were invited and over 200 people attended. The Design Statement was launched on 6th March 2004. All households were subsequently provided with a copy. Following the launch the Convenor wrote to South Gloucestershire Council asking that the Design Statement be formally adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance. Officers of the Council subsequently prepared a report for Executive Decision. The report was published as a proposed decision, which became implementable
