For discussion FCR(2015-16)3 on 17 April 2015 ITEM FOR FINANCE COMMITTEE LOAN FUND NEW HEAD – “Private Hospital Development” New Subhead – “Loan for the CUHK Medical Centre Development Project” Members are invited to approve a commitment of $4,033 million for the provision of a loan to the CUHK Medical Centre Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, for the purpose of developing a non-profit making private teaching hospital, to be named the CUHK Medical Centre. PROBLEM The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), a statutory body incorporated under the Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance (Cap. 1109), requires the Government’s financial support in the form of a loan to implement the CUHK Medical Centre Development Project. PROPOSAL 2. The Secretary for Food and Health recommends the creation of a new commitment of $4,033 million, and the provision by the Government to the CUHK Medical Centre Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CUHK, of a loan of $4,033 million under the Loan Fund. The proposed loan is to finance the development costs of a non-profit making private teaching hospital, to be named the CUHK Medical Centre, by CUHK and is for a period of 15 years with interest-free for the first five years from the first drawdown in 2016-17 and on a floating interest rate equivalent to the interest rate of the Government’s fiscal reserves placed with the Exchange Fund from 2021 onwards. /JUSTIFICATION ….. THIRTY-SIXTH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ECONOMIC CRIME SUNDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER - SUNDAY 9th SEPTEMBER 2018 JESUS COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE Unexplained wealth – whose business? The 36thCambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime Unexplained Wealth - whose business? The Thirty-Sixth International Symposium on Economic Crime is the most extensive and ambitious programme that we have so far attempted to put together. The overarching theme is how we can better identify and render accountable unexplained and suspicious wealth. As we increasingly realise that the way in which most of us approach suspect wealth and money laundering lacks efficiency and imposes arguably disproportionate burdens and risks on the financial and business system, it appears a partial answer might be in focusing on the identification of unexplained wealth, but then what do we do? These important and timely issues are pursued in a practical, applied and relevant manner, by those with the benefit of experience from across the world. The symposium, although held in one of the world’s leading universities and recognising the significance of intelligent deliberation, is not a talking shop for those with vested interests – official or commercial. We strive to offer a rich and deep analysis of the real issues and, in particular, threats to our institutions and economies presented by economically motivated crime and misconduct. Therefore, well over 600 experts from around the world will share their experience and knowledge with other participants drawn from policy makers, law enforcement, compliance, regulation, business and the professions. The programme is drawn up with the support of a number of agencies and organisations, and the Organising Institutions and principal sponsors greatly value this global commitment. -

UNIVERSITY FACILITIES AND SERVICES Student Activities - OSA organises leadership Services for Students and Student development programmes for students, coordinates Activities orientation and intervarsity activities, and liaises with and supports student associations. It also administers Office of Student Affairs various student activity funds. The Chinese University of Hong Kong is committed to providing its students with a holistic and balanced Student Amenities - OSA administers student education, consisting of both formal and non-formal amenities in various locations, the University swimming elements. Compared to the other colleges, New Asia College has strong emphasis on the arts and humanities in general and on the traditional Chinese culture in particular. The Ch’ien Mu Library of New Asia College houses an extensive collection of fine arts to support the academic curriculum of the Department of Fine Arts located in the same campus of the College. -
