The Parish Records of Loose – Marriages 1542-1837 THE PARISH RECORDS OF LOOSE MARRIAGES 1542-1837 (Including entries from Loose Register of Banns and extracts from Marriages of All Saints’ Maidstone 1543-1742. Also includes some marriages between couples from surrounding areas) This list has been compiled by Margaret Chapman, from transcriptions by the late John Short (1559-1837) and Roger Thornburgh (1754-1837), both local historians. Where the two sets of transcriptions overlap both have been checked for compatibility. Corrupt spellings of names have been retained, apart from those beginning with ff which have been modernised to F. There were no marriages recorded for the years that appear to be missing. Marriages for 1653-1657 were conducted before Richard Beale, JP Marriage Registers of All Saints’ Maidstone – extracted records (by John Short) of people specifically mentioned as being of Loose Parish and adjoining areas are indicated as ‘M’ in the ‘comments’ column. Those marked ‘M*’ might be of Loose – as the names are prevalent in this area. Loose Register of Banns– only those names (extracted by Roger Thornburgh) that do not appear in the Register of Marriages are included on this list and are indicated as ‘B’ in ‘Comments’ column. The last of the three required dates of the readings of Banns are given here Maidstone Strays. (rootsweb.ancestry.com). Names from this list are indicated thus: MS. Those marked MS* might be of Loose. Some details of witnesses (mainly C19 entries) are available upon request at [email protected] 1 YEAR DAY SURNAME GIVEN NAME SURNAME GIVEN NAME ADDRESS COMMENTS (Male) (Female) (if known) X = unable to write W = widow/widower B = Banns Register (Loose) M = All Saints’ Maidstone M* = Possibly of Loose MS = Maidstone Strays 1543 Aug 20 Beale John Myller Agnes M* 1545 Nov 15 Charleton John Everden Alis M* 1545 Nov 23 Covenay Nycholas Lorkyn Alis M* 1546 May 25 Austen Nicholas Wyburne Elizabeth M* 1546 Feb 5 Eatyn Wylliam Austen Alis M* 1547 Jul 2 Beale Thomas Cobb Joanne M* 1547 Oct 17 Covenay William Clyfforde Emme M* 1547 Sep 11 Webbe John Austen Alis M* 1553 Jun 5 Beall Thomas Owlgate Alc M*. “Father & mother to Ambrose Beale living in Estland[?] 1631. • Penn Court with Two Cottages and a Holiday Let
Penn Court Manor Lane | Hollingbourne | Maidstone, Kent | ME17 1UN PENN COURT WITH TWO COTTAGES AND A HOLIDAY LET Seller Insight This very large and extremely elegant Grade II Listed Manor House enjoys a superb position within the charming village of Hollingbourne. “Penn Court originally dates back to the 17th century and has been in our family since the 1950s,” says Pauline. “My husband was actually brought up here as a teenager. We have lived in the house for the past twenty five years and I have to say we’ve absolutely loved every minute.” “It’s a house that’s oozing with character, from the pine panelled room and the oak panelled room to the huge inglenook fireplace, there is an absolute wealth of beautiful original features throughout. It’s a very old and elegant home, but not in the slightest bit oppressive because each of the rooms is extremely generously proportioned with lovely high ceilings, so there’s wonderful feeling of space throughout. Over the years we’ve updated certain elements to suit our way of living, but there’s certainly a lot of scope for the house to be enhanced further.” “The grounds are also absolutely gorgeous; I am the chief gardener, but I do have some professional help, so the whole of the outside space is looking splendid,” continues Pauline. “We have open lawns, lots of beautiful box hedging and a gorgeous parterre right next to the swimming pool,” continues Pauline. “It’s filled with an array of fragrant plants, including roses and lavender, so it’s gorgeous during the summer.

'I paid a visit and was enthused by the concept of the gallery and the warmth of the staff and volunteers and the fact that the student had actually sold some of his work. 'When I was teaching full time it was often exhausting. Producing my own work felt a bit like a busman's holiday. On my semi-retirement my partner Sue could see the potential advantage of me painting rather than getting under her feet and was full of enthusiasm and encouragement for the idea, so I signed up. 'Working to deadlines has been very good for me. I doubt I would have rediscovered my enthusiasm for painting without Nucleus. The concept of the gallery is inspirational to many local artists and something that has been missing from Maidstone for a long time. 'I hope to continue to develop my expertise and extend my work by producing Phil Brown: water colour portraits and develop a web site'.
