GVK MIAL's Fourth Sustainability Report Released Vol. 07 Iss. 1II October to December 2018 GVK MIAL’s fourth Sustainability Report released Editor Speak Dear Colleagues, We are happy to present yet another interesting issue of our GVK WORLD for your reading pleasure. Sustainability is the buzzword in all of GVK’s projects. This was emphasized all long in his speech by Dr. GVK Reddy, Executive Chairman, GVK MIAL, while releasing the fourth biennial MIAL Sustainability Report based on the theme ‘Coming together for a Sustainable Tomorrow’. It is indeed a proud achievement that GVK MIAL is the first and only airport operator in India to release a Sustainability Report in the public domain and also the first in the entire Asian continent to publish a report that is based on a Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) Standards database. In this issue, we are also showcasing GVK’s best practices of giving back to society. Our Founder Chairman, Dr GVK Reddy, inaugurated the residential apartments for the staff in GVK Chinmaya Vidyalaya premises with a formal puja and also announced scholarships for two meritorious students from intermediate classes for admission into the Chinmaya University. Our Vice Chairman, Mr. G V Sanjay Reddy, was invited as one of the distinguished panelists for a discussion on ‘How we grow: Upgrading infrastructure in a time-bound manner’ which was organized by the Government of Maharashtra in partnership with Project Mumbai in Mumbai. Saving lives is the main motto for GVK EMRI through its emergency services number 108 and this has helped save lives of over 1.5 million people across the country. The hotline number has been active for the past 12 years and serves the largest population in the world. This quarter was full of festivals and important days which were celebrated across GVK offices in the country whole heartedly. Navratri, Diwali and Christmas were celebrated all across, with contests like “Let’s make a ‘Noise’” and “Be a Santa this Christmas” for the employees respectively. We would also like to recognize and congratulate our colleagues from across GVK companies for their singular achievements which are highlighted in this issue. In conclusion, we wish to thank everyone for your invaluable contribution and expect that your enthusiastic responses will continue to keep pouring in during 2019. Happy Reading! • Sai Nilayam Satsang Consider November to Be the Luckiest Month As That Was When Everybody Started Witnessing the Divine Miracles of Baba
CHAPTER 1 BONDING BETWEEN BABA, PRASANNA AND SRINIVAS SASTRY This chapter recounts the story of how bonding between Sri Shirdi Sai Baba, Srinivas Sastry & Prasanna came to be. Listening to the countless miracles that took place at Sri Sai Nilayam, one can imagine the intimate relationship the Sri Shirdi Sai Baba has with Sastry Uncle’s family. Given the kind of love and grace Baba has showered upon their family, especially upon Sastry Uncle and Prasanna Aunty, one might assume, and for good reason, that they must have been ardent devotees of Baba since a very long time. But one would be surprised at the fact that they hadn’t heard of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba or Shirdi until the year 1996. Until that year they would regularly go on pilgrimages to the holy places of Annavaram and Tirupati, the holy abodes of Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana and Lord Vishnu respectively. The former is believed to be an incarnation of the latter. During the late 1990’s Srinivas Sastry was employed with Glaxo, but owing to certain health issues he would resign from his job. While working, Srinivas had bought a flat in an apartment complex located in Kakinada. Later when he resigned from his job, his friend, one Suryanarayana suggested that they invest a certain amount of money and start a business. Unfortunately, the venture turned out to be a disaster, and suffering from huge financial losses, Srinivas would eventually shut the business down. Having invested all their money in an unfruitful venture, Srinivas Sastry and Prasanna were financially crippled and were staring at an uncertain future.
