Merlion Park Sebagai Destinasi Wisata Utama Di Singapura Foreign Case Study 2018 Sekolah Tinggi Pariwasata Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta Merlion Park Sebagai Destinasi Wisata Utama Di Singapura Ajeng Kusumaningrum 151863 Sekolah Tinggi Pariwasata Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta Abstract : Makalah ini merupakan hasil laporan Foreign Case Study untuk syarat publikasi ilmiah di Sekolah Tinggi Pariwasata Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta dengan Judul Merlion Park Sebagai Destinasi Wisata Utama Di Singapura. 1. Pendahuluan A. Latar Belakang Pembangunan pariwisata di Indonesia yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah merupakan bagian dari sebuah pembangunan nasional. Selain itu pariwisata juga termasuk dalam sektor terpenting di semua negara karena dapat menghasilkan devisa yang begitu besar [1]. Meskipun pariwisata di Indonesia sudah banyak dikenal oleh masyarakat, masih banyak pariwisata yang berada di beberapa daerah belum populer di masyarakat luar maupun masyarakat Indonesia sendiri. Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara berkembang yang memiliki berbagai macam potensi pariwisata, baik wisata alam maupun wisata budaya karena Indonesia memiliki bermacam-macam suku, adat-istiadat, dan kebudayaan serta karena letak geografis negara Indonesia sebagai negara tropis yang menghasilkan keindahan alam dan satwa [2]. Indonesia memiliki wilayah yang sangat luas dengan didukung sumber daya alam yang beraneka ragam yang berpotensi untuk diolah dan dimanfaatkan [3]. Selain itu negara Indonesia juga kaya akan seni budaya daerah, adat istiadat, peninggalan sejarah terdahulu dan yang tidak kalah menarik adalah keindahan panorama alamnya yang cukup potensial untuk dikembangkan dengan baik. Dalam Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report dari World Economic Forum yang mengukur sejumlah faktor dan kebijakan yang memungkinkan perkembangan berkelanjutan dari sektor travel & wisata, yang pada gilirannya, berkontribusi pada pembangunan dan daya kompetitif negara ini [4]. Indonesia melompat dari peringkat 70 di tahun 2013 menjadi peringkat 50 di tahun 2015, sebuah kemajuan yang mengagumkan. Lompatan ini disebabkan oleh pertumbuhan cepat dari kedatangan turis asing ke Indonesia, prioritas nasional untuk industri pariwisata dan investasi infrastruktur (contohnya jaringan telepon selular kini mencapai sebagain besar wilayah di negara ini, dan transportasi udara telah meluas) [5]. Laporan ini menyatakan bahwa keuntungan daya saing Indonesia adalah harga yang kompetitif, kekayaan sumberdaya alam (biodiversitas), dan adanya sejumlah lokasi warisan budaya. Kurangnya infrastruktur yang layak di Indonesia adalah masalah yang berkelanjutan, bukan hanya karena hal ini sangat meningkatkan biaya-biaya logistik sehingga membuat iklim investasi kurang menarik namun juga mengurangi kelancaran perjalanan untuk pariwisata. Infrastruktur di Bali luar biasa dan di Jakarta cukup layak kecuali untuk kemacetan lalu lintas yang sangat besar namun di luar Bali dan Jakarta kebanyakan infrastruktur di negara ini kurang layak, terutama di wilayah Timur Indonesia karena kurangnya bandara, pelabuhan, jalan, dan hotel. Kurangnya konektivitas di dalam dan antar pulau berarti ada sejumlah besar wilayah di Indonesia dengan potensi pariwisata yang tidak bisa didatangi dengan mudah. Selain infrastruktur, pendidikan juga menjadi halangan. Meskipun di Pulau Bali dan hotel-hotel mewah di Jakarta kebanyakan penduduk asli yang bekerja di sektor pariwisata cukup fasih berbahasa Inggris (dan bahkan bahasa- bahasa asing lainnya), di wilayah-wilayah yang lebih terpencil penduduk asli kesulitan untuk berkomunikasi dengan para turis. Oleh karena itu, fokus pada mempelajari Bahasa Inggris akan membantu mengatasi keadaan ini. Halangan bahasa ini adalah alasan mengapa sejumlah warga Singapura lebih memilih Malaysia ketimbang Indonesia sebagai tempat tujuan wisata mereka. Kebanyakan turis asing yang datang ke Indonesia berasal dari Singapura, diikuti oleh Malaysia dan Australia. Indonesia mungkin mencapai targetnya untuk menyambut 10 juta turis asing di 2015, namun angka ini jauh lebih rendah dari jumlah turis yang mengunjungi negara-negara tetangga Singapura 15 juta atau Malaysia 27 juta. Pesaing pariwisata di negara Asean adalah Singapura. Singapura yang luas kotanya hanya 710 kilometer persegi atau sekitar luas kota Jakarta justru merupakan negara yang perkembangan perekonomiannya sangat cepat dan tumbuh pesat. Bahkan hampir semua wisata nya adalah wisata buatan, tetapi justru merupakan salah satu destinasi favorit di kawasan Asia Tenggara. Potensi pariwisata Indonesia dengan Singapura memiliki jenis berbeda, di Indonesia jenis pariwisata kita lebih banyak di pariwisata alam [6]. Sedangkan Singapura lebih ke objek wisata buatan yang dikemas modern. Objek wisata yang terkenal di Singapura antara lain, Merlion (patung singa), Orchard Road, Universal Studio, Marina Bay Sands, Sentosa Island, Singapore Flyer, Garden By The Bay, China Town, Bugis Street, dan lain-lain. Singapura juga menjadi salah satu tujuan pariwisata terkenal di Asia Tenggara oleh para wisatawan dari berbagai dunia. Selain memiliki objek wisata yang modern dan dipenuhi dengan gedung-gedung mewah, Singapura juga merupakan salah satu negara paling bersih di dunia. Hal itulah yang membuat wisatawan yang datang ke Singapura selalu mersa nyaman ketika sedang berlibur. Pengetahuan yang didapat dalam bidang pariwisata seperti pengembangan pariwisata sangat perlu diterapkan di Negara Indonesia. Seperti melihat pengembangan pariwisata di negara tetangga yang mengalami perubahan yang sangat pesat sedangkan banyak wisata buatan dibandingkan dengan Indonesia yang memiliki kekayaan sumber daya alam yang sangat berpotensi lebih bisa dikembangkan untuk meningkatkan kunjungan wisatawan di indonesia. Apabila dilihat dari segi sumber daya alam bisa dibandingkan dengan melihat perkembangan pariwisata di negara tetangga agar masyarakat maupun generasi muda bisa mendapatkan ide baru dalam dunia pariwisata di Indonesia. Maka dari itu pendidikan pariwisata di Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta (STIPRAM) mengadakan program pariwisaya yang wajib dilakukan oleh mahasiswa yaitu Foreign Case Study. Foregin Case Study ini merupakan program yang bertujuan agar mahasiswa bisa mempelajari secara langsung dengan mengunjungi suatu negara untuk melihat perkembangan pariwisata di negara tersebut. Selain bisa melihat perkembangan pariwisata yaitu membandingkan kemajuan industri pariwisata. Dalam program Foreign Case Study ini penulis memilih negara singapura untuk melihat secara langsung negara yang berkembang sangat pesat dalam industri pariwisata. Program foreign case study diikuti oleh penulis pada tanggal 22 Maret 2018 sampai pada tanggal 24 Maret 2018. Berdasarkan program foreign case study maka dari itu penulis akan menjelaskan tentang ilmu yang didapatkan selama mengikuti kegiatan tersebut [7]. B. Profil Negara Singapura Singapura adalah sebuah negara maju yang terletak di Asia Tenggara. Negara pulau yang hanya memiliki luas wilayah 697 km² ini memegang peranan penting dalam perdagangan dan keuangan internasional. Negara yang sebelumnya merupakan koloni Inggris ini pernah bergabung ke Federasi Malaysia pada tahun 1963 setelah memperoleh kemerdekaan dari Inggris. Namun dua tahun kemudian yaitu tahun 1965, Singapura berpisah dengan Federasi Malaysia dan resmi menjadi negara yang berdaulat. Tanggal 9 Agustus 1965 yaitu tanggal berpisahnya Singapura dengan Federasi Malaysia diperingati sebagai Hari Kemerdekaan Singapura. Sebagai negara maju, Singapura memiliki pendapatan perkapita yang sangat tinggi yaitu sebesar USD. 87.100,- dengan Pendapatan Domestik Bruto nominal (PDB Nominal) sebesar USD. 487,9 miliar. Pendapatan Perkapita tersebut menjadikan Singapura sebagai salah satu negara terkaya di Dunia. Secara Astronomis, Singapura terletak di antara 1⁰11’ LU – 1⁰28’ LU dan 103⁰38’BT – 104⁰5’ BT. Singapura merupakan negara pulau yang tidak memiliki perbatasan darat dengan negara lainnya. Jika dilihat dari perbatasan lautnya, Singapura berbatasan dengan Malaysia di sebelah Utaranya yang dipisahkan oleh Selat Johor. Sedangakan di sebelah Selatannya berbatasan dengan Indonesia dengan Selat Singapura sebagai batas pemisahnya. Secara Geografi Singapura terdiri dari 63 pulau, termasuk daratan Singapura. Pulau utama sering disebut Pulau Singapura tetapi secara resmi disebut Pulau Ujong Melayu berarti pulau di ujung daratan (semenanjung). Terdapat dua jembatan buatan menuju Johor, Malaysia: Johor–Singapore Causeway di utara, dan Tuas Second Link di barat. Pulau Jurong, Pulau Tekong, Pulau Ubin dan Pulau Sentosa adalah yang terbesar dari beberapa pulau kecil di Singapura. Titik alami tertinggi adalah Bukit Timah Hill dengan tinggi 166 m (545 ft). Singapura memiliki banyak proyek reklamasi tanah dengan tanah diperoleh dari bukit, dasar laut, dan negara tetangga. Singapore is a highly urbanised city-state of approximately 710 km2 with a population of almost 5 million. While large, contiguous natural habitats are uncommon in Singapore, there remains a large pool of biodiversity to be found in its four Nature Reserves, 20 Nature Areas, its numerous parks, and other pockets of naturally vegetated areas. Traditionally, conservation in Singapore focused on terrestrial flora and fauna; recent emphasis has shifted to marine environments, showcased by the reversal of development works on a unique intertidal shore called Chek Jawa (Dec 2001), the legal protection of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (mangrove and mudflat habitats) and Labrador Nature Reserve (coastal habitat) in 2002, the adoption of a national biodiversity strategy (September 2009) and an integrated coastal management framework (November 2009). Singapore has also adopted the “City in a Garden” concept, a 10-year plan that aims to not only heighten the natural infrastructure of the city, but also to further engage and involve members of the public. The increasing trend of volunteerism, from various sectors of society, has made “citizen-science” an important component in many biodiversity conservation projects, particularly in the marine biodiversity-rich areas. Some of the key outputs from these so-called “3P” (people, public and private) initiatives include confirmation of 12 species of seagrasses in Singapore (out of the Indo-Pacific total of 23), observations of new records of coral reef fish species, long term trends on the state of coral reefs in one of the world's busiest ports, and the initiation of a Comprehensive Marine Biodiversity Survey project.

    MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release New National Masterplan to Encourage More to Garden - NParks takes over development of the Orchid Industry Singapore, 3 November 2017- The National Parks Board (NParks) today announced a new national gardening masterplan for Singapore which centres on promoting edible gardening. The masterplan will be implemented through both ongoing and new initiatives such as training, the expansion of the allotment gardening scheme, as well as outreach efforts like the Community Garden Festival. With a large number of community gardeners growing edibles, the Edible Horticulture Masterplan aims to increase knowledge and cultivate the community’s interest in gardening by opening up more avenues for the public to participate in Singapore’s greening efforts. During the opening of the Community Garden Festival at HortPark, NParks also unveiled HortHouse, which will serve as the new training hub for the Centre for Urban Greenery and Ecology (CUGE). This new landscape fronting HortHouse featuring eleven families of flowers and foliage will also provide an outdoor showcase of horticultural varieties to complement learning, and appeal to home gardeners. The focus on edibles taps on the immense interest in edible gardening to nurture younger gardeners. After more than a decade since the establishment of the Community in Bloom programme, community gardeners have honed their skills in growing edibles. At present, 80% of the gardening groups in HDB estates grow edibles in their community gardens. This burgeoning interest in edibles is also evident in the increasing number of entries in the NParks Community Garden Edibles Competition each year. There were a record number of 400 participants in this year’s competition, an approximately 33% increase from the previous year, in addition to an overall improvement in the quality of entries as the competition enters its third year.
