He recorded an assist in the first game of the season, before going on to claim a regular place in the starting lineup from the following year. In 2008, he joined VVV Venlo in the Netherlands. Although the team was relegated to the second division in his first season, the following season he played 36 matches scoring 16 goals and recording 13 assists, leading the team back to the first division and was selected as MVP of the season for the second division. In 2010, Honda was transferred to CSKA Moscow in Russia. He made a major contribution to the team in the UEFA Champions league, scoring a free kick as the team reaches the quarterfinals for the first time. At the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, he also scored two goals for Japan, contributing to the team's qualification for the final 16. Honda, who has won fans around the world throughout his career, was also chosen as MVP of the tournament as Japan won the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. In January 2014, he signed for Italian powerhouse AC Milan, where he was given the number 10 shirt. In June 2014, Honda scored one goal and recorded one assist at the World Cup in Brazil. In July 2017, he surprised the football world by joining CF Pachuca, the oldest club in Mexico. Other activities Keisuke Honda is also a businessman and an educator, actively and continuously involved in various educational and social projects. In 2012, he launched the Soltilo Famalia Soccer School, which currently runs around 70 schools around the world in countries including Japan, China, Cambodia and Thailand, serving a total of around 4000 children. Honda is involved in the management of SV Horn, a football club in the third tier of the Austrian league, where he is helping to develop young talent. Honda also runs Soltilo Angkor FC, a football club in the second division in Cambodia. While contributing to the development of football in Cambodia, the club also works to provide dreams and opportunities to young Cambodians. Honda holds football training sessions around the world every year, a project that began in 2009. He has held training sessions in 18 cities in 11 nations including Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Taiwan, Uganda, etc. In 2016, he was designated a Global Advocate for Youth by the United Nations Foundation.
