Previous meetings • This is the sides' first UEFA club competition meeting and Chornomorets' first encounter with Dutch opponents. • PSV's 12 previous encounters with Ukrainian teams stand at W4 D3 L5 (W2 D2 L2 at home – W2 D1 L3 in Ukraine). Most recently, they lost home and away to FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in last season's UEFA Europa League group stage. Match background • This is Chornomorets' first UEFA group stage campaign, and their eighth game since entering the competition in the second qualifying round. Their longest previous European campaign was a six-match voyage to the second round of the 1995/96 UEFA Cup. • Chornomorets have won all three of their European home games this season, and are unbeaten in five at home in continental competition (W4 D1) since a 1-0 loss to Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup first round. • PSV are the only side to have competed in every edition of the UEFA Europa League group stage since the competition's inception in 2009/10, missing out on the round of 32 for the first time last season when they finished behind FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and SSC Napoli in Group F. • PSV kicked off Group B with a 2-0 home loss to PFC Ludogorets Razgrad – a result which matched their two previous worst home losses in the competition: to ACF Fiorentina in the 2007/08 quarter-finals, and to Dundee United FC in the 1982/83 first round. Team facts • PSV are one of five clubs in this season's group stage to have won this competition before (1978), along with Valencia CF (2004), Eintracht Frankfurt (1980) and two-time winners Sevilla FC (2006, 2007) and Tottenham Hotspur FC (1972, 1984). PSV are the only side involved on matchday one to have also won the European Champion Clubs' Cup, in 1988. • This will be PSV's 38th game in the UEFA Europa League, matching the appearance record held jointly by Sporting Clube de Portugal and two-time winners Club Atlético de Madrid. Coach information • Chornomorets coach since November 2010, Roman Grygorchuk was a successful striker in his native Ukraine, also playing in Austria, Poland and Russia before going from the pitch to the bench in Latvia. He won three Latvian titles as FK Ventspils coach but then opted to return to Ukraine. In Odessa, he won promotion to the top division in his first season in charge, while a sixth-place finish in 2012/13 opened the door to Europe. • Hired in the summer of 2013 to coach the club he served so successfully as a player, Phillip Cocu had spent several years preparing, working with the senior national team and PSV's youth teams and briefly taking caretaker command of the PSV first XI in 2012. Capped 101 times for the Netherlands, he won four Dutch titles with PSV either side of a lengthy spell at FC Barcelona, peaking with the 1998/99 Liga triumph. 4 FC Chornomorets Odesa - PSV Eindhoven Thursday 3 October 2013 - 21.05CET, (22.05 local time) Match press kit Chornomorets, Odessa Team facts FC Chornomorets Odesa Formed: 1936 Nickname: Moryaki (The Sailors) UEFA club competition honours • None Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) Ukrainian Cup: 2 (1994) Ten-year record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA competition 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA competition 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA competition 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA competition 2007/08: UEFA Intertoto Cup second round 2006/07: first round 2005/06: did not take part in UEFA competition 2004/05: did not take part in UEFA competition 2003/04: did not take part in UEFA competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 7-1: Chornomorets v FC Vaduz 02/09/92, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup preliminary round second leg • Biggest away win 0-5: FC Vaduz v Chornomorets 19/08/92, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup preliminary round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Chornomorets v Olympiacos FC 30/09/92, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round second leg • Heaviest away defeat 4-0: RC Lens v Chornomorets 01/11/95, UEFA Cup second round second leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 3-1 twice, most recently v FK Crvena zvezda 01/08/13, third qualifying round first leg 2-0 twice, most recently v FC Dacia Chisinau 18/07/13, second qualifying round first leg • Biggest away win 2-5: Hibernians FC v Chornomorets 08/08/95, preliminary round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-2: Chornomorets v PSV Eindhoven 03/10/13, group stage • Heaviest away defeat 4-0: RC Lens v Chornomorets (see above) PSV Eindhoven Formed: 1913 Nickname: Boeren (Farmers) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • European Champion Clubs' Cup: 1988 • UEFA Cup: 1978 5 FC Chornomorets Odesa - PSV Eindhoven Thursday 3 October 2013 - 21.05CET, (22.05 local time) Match press kit Chornomorets, Odessa • UEFA Super Cup: (1989) • European/South American Cup: (1988) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 21 (2008) Dutch Cup: 9 (2012) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2012/13: group stage 2011/12: round of 16 2010/11: quarter-finals 2009/10: round of 32 2008/09: UEFA Champions League group stage 2007/08: quarter-finals (having transferred from UEFA Champions League group stage) 2006/07: UEFA Champions League quarter-finals 2005/06: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2004/05: UEFA Champions League semi-finals 2003/04: quarter-finals (having transferred from UEFA Champions League group stage) Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 10-0: PSV v Ards FC 18/09/74, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round first leg • Biggest away win 0-5: FK Zeta v PSV 23/08/12, UEFA Europa League play-off first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-4: PSV v Arsenal FC 25/09/02, UEFA Champions League first group stage • Heaviest away defeat 6-0: AS Saint-Étienne v PSV 07/11/1979, UEFA Cup second round second leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 9-0: PSV v FK Zeta 30/08/12, play-off second leg • Biggest away win 0-5: FK Zeta v PSV (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-2 three times, most recently v PFC Ludogorets Razgrad 19/09/13, group stage • Heaviest away defeat 6-0: AS Saint-Étienne v PSV (see above) 6 FC Chornomorets Odesa - PSV Eindhoven Thursday 3 October 2013 - 21.05CET, (22.05 local time) Match press kit Chornomorets, Odessa Squad list FC Chornomorets Odesa Current season All-time QUAL Tournament League Tournament UEFA No.
