ISSN 1020-7473 Justice, kindness and charity* Despite Muslim States hosting large numbers of refugees1 and internally displaced persons (IDPs)2, the inherent protection and assistance afforded to forced migrants at Islamic Law3 has largely been overlooked. There is no readily available particularised fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) on the matter, and it was not until the early 1990s that a few Islamic scholars began delving into the Shariah in the interests of finding Islamic modes of protection. Since that time, with the exception of a few recent fatwas, little academic scholarship has persisted despite the fact that the Sharia presents as a rich source of protection and assistance for forced migrants. The purpose of this article is to explain how Zakat (Islamic charity), or the giving of alms to the poor or those in need, can help improve one’s psychological well-being. The study found that sincerity and understanding the wisdom of Zakat are the two important elements for improving psychological well-being among Muslim believers. This is because Zakat can foster many positive attitudes such sincerity, compassion, and gratitude. Moreover, Zakat can also prevent negative traits like greed, arrogance, and selfishness. Therefore, Zakat, performed with sincerity and philosophical understanding can be used as a form treatment for neurosis patients. It is hoped that this article can serve as a guideline for psychologists and counsellors in how to treat Muslim neurosis patients. Generally, this involves the payment each year of two and a half percent of one's capital, after the needs of the family have been met. One can donate additional amount as an act of voluntary charity but Zakat is fundamental to every Muslim. Zakat is the Islamic contribution to social justice: those who have to give charity share the benefit of their prosperity to those who have fallen short. This is the Islamic approach to remove greed and envy and to purify one's soul based on good intentions. This is the institution of Zakat in Islam. Apart from zakat imposed on an individual, zakat is also imposed on salary or income, business earnings, share or investment, agriculture produce, livestock, and gold and silver. Although technically both gold and silver are minerals, different categories of minerals are not given due attention regarding their zakat. This study analyses the zakat on minerals, which includes the discussion of its due obligation, the rate of zakat imposed and the haul and nisab on minerals, among others. The discussion on zakat on minerals in this study is based on the books written by prominent contemporary Muslim scholars. This study found that zakat on several minerals is yet to be exercised although it is obligatory to pay its due zakat. The lack of various mechanisms concerning the mineral assessment, evaluation methods to name it few, hindered the exercise of zakat on minerals to be implemented. This study sheds light on the need to introduce a comprehensive mechanism regarding zakat on minerals, thus expedite its implementation in Islamic countries. A clear new commitment on the zakat on minerals and its due attention should remain as the focus for future studies ahead.

    The Integration of Accounting Sciences in The Determination of Zakah on Inheritance Susnaningsih Mu’at, Leny Nofianti, Andi Irfan, Febri Rahmi, Desrir Miftah Abstract— This research aims to integrate accounting sciences in the determination of zakah on inheritance. This is a library research and data used in this research are the form of books, journals and other relevant sources. The Data are analyzed with a qualitative descriptive method. In Islam, distribution of inheritance are similar to the accounting principles in the form of (1). Payment of funeral expenses (2). The realization of tirkah in the form of cash (3). The payment of debt (4). Payment of will and Testament (1/3 of the inheritance. (5) the payment of zakah (2.5% of the inheritance). (6) the Division of net tirkah to all the heirs. Treasure (asset) left by the deceased (tirkah), according to the Islamic sharia not everything can be inherited. Assets to be bequeathed valued at fair value (market value) in order to obtain more relevant information in making decisions. Once assets assessed at the fair value, assets are distributed to heirs in accordance with the provisions, because asset valuation use fair value, the assets distributed could be higher or lower in value compared with the calculation of the Division of inheritance in the absence of fair value. Islam, which is a perfect code of life and whose objective is perpetual happiness of all mankind, has not neglected defense of the individual and the society against crime. It recognizes that crime is the worst impediment to moving towards absolute perfection and ascension towards God. The goal of Islam is the evolution of the perfect man and the establishment of the righteous state. Contrary to schools of thought that consider human beings corrupt by nature and by instinct, in Islam man by nature is a being seeking righteousness, capable of both correction and reform. Therefore, Islam sanctions preventive measures to dry up the economic, social, and cultural roots of crime thereby restoring the criminal to his previous innocent nature through proper training. Islam reserves punishment exclusively for exceptional cases, because punishment has mostly a negative and superficial role in the reformation of the criminal. This is why Islam generally concerns itself with the correction of the criminal rather than the necessity for exploring the crime by means of confession or investigation, collecting evidence and proof of the attribution of the crime to the offender. Immediately after the commission of every offense, and after guilt is established, the prosecution of the offender is arranged. If the judgment contains severe punishment without taking into account the individual's material and moral circumstances, and the sentence is executed easily with no hesitation, then the sentence may be suspended.
