The start was in the Eastgate area with the finish at Eighth and Broadway. The race was won by Gary Oringderff in 4:29, followed by Tom Moore in 4:30. CTC people: Tom Allen 5:17, Debbie Hoxworth, first female, 5:38, Betty Bohon 5:46, Chris Ruble 5:47, Amy Allen, 9, 7:26, Nancy Fritsch 7:36. June 9, 1984: Only six runners for a 10k road race in the Rock Bridge area since Hickman Track was flooded because of torrential rains. Tom LaFontaine won with a 38:54, followed by Dick Madsen at 39:57. Joe Duncan finished last, but as he said then "it took five good runners to beat him." Not only that, Duncan was making his debut at age 50. Here's what he had to say about that: "Yes, Duncan is 50 now--it took him a half century to get there, but in checking the record books, we can't see that anyone has ever done it any Congratulations to our 2009 CTC faster." I have been running 5ks since fifth grade, I competed in track from seventh grade through twelfth grade, and I competed in cross country from 10th through twelfth grade. Weekly Mileage: During track and cross coun- try season, I run 35 to 40 miles a week, but in the off-season, especially if I’m training for longer races, I run 40 to 50 miles a week.
