FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Team Penske's Car, Sponsored by the Hitachi Group, Takes Third Place in the Tenth Event of the U.S. IndyCar Series Tokyo, June 16, 2015 --- Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. today announced that Helio Castroneves, a Penske Racing Driver contracted and sponsored by the Hitachi Group (including Hitachi Automotive Systems) took third place in the tenth event of the IndyCar series held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on June 14. Helio Castroneves began the race in seventh position. All cars started out with wet tires, but the track steadily dried and the condition improved during the race. The third place finish by Castroneves was very much a team effort, a combination of hard work by the pit mechanics, particularly with the tire changes, and skilful driving on the track. Penske Racing teammate Will Power came fourth, Juan Pablo Montoya in seventh place and Simon Pagenaud in eleventh place. The result lifted Castroneves to fourth place overall in the 2015 championship standings, behind teammates Montoya and Power in first and second place respectively, with Team Penske drivers dominating the top spots. Looking ahead, Hitachi Automotive Systems will use its sponsorship of motor sports, including IndyCar racing, to further grow the Hitachi brand and make a contribution to motor sports. This is especially evident in recent years. The 1996 “split” between the Indy Racing League (IRL; later, the IndyCar Series) and Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART; later the Champ Car World Series) severely hurt the sport. Following the split there was a well-documented decline in fan interest from which the sport has not recovered. Less understood, however, is that under the Indy Racing League the Indianapolis 500, the premier event in open-wheeled racing in the United States, became more competitive. Ironically, while fan interest decreased in the Indy Racing League era, the quality of racing increased. The increased competition associated with the Indy Racing League is a historically significant development that bodes well for the future of the sport.

The win was the 20 th overall this season for Snap-on drivers. “Team Penske did it again in the IRL,” said Alicia Smales, vice president of marketing for Snap-on Tools. “All three Penske drivers, Will Power, Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe, are in the top five in the season-points standings and, between the three, they have won a combined eight races this year. We want to congratulate Helio on his win and everyone at Snap-on will be cheering on the Penske Racing Team in their last two races of the season.” Castroneves started the race from the eighth position but took advantage of his competitors pitting late in the race for fuel, giving him the opportunity to capture the checkered flag.
