  • Report-Back from Earth Festival Stakeholder Meetings Along The
Report-back from Earth Festival stakeholder meetings along the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site November 2010 1 A series of three meetings were held in November 2012 in Lyme Regis, Lulworth and Portland to discuss the Jurassic Coast Earth festival, which will be taking place between 4 May and 9 September 2012. (The East Devon meeting was postponed due to severe weather warnings and is rescheduled for 13 January 2011.) The Jurassic Coast Earth Festival is being led by the Lyme Regis Development Trust, and these events were run with invaluable input by various members of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Team – which is supporting the development and implementation of the Earth Festival. The aims of the meetings were to: communicate the themes and opportunities provided by the Jurassic Coast Earth Festival 2012 inspire participation in the festival and stimulate new initiatives create connections within and between communities along the Jurassic Coast These were attended by over 80 people, comprising artists and arts organisations, venues, museums, local authority officers, councillors, community initiatives, visitor centres, conservation organisations including the National Trust, Dorset and Devon AONB, Natural England, Countryside Rangers, schools, media and others. A preliminary website www.earthfestival2012.org has since been created which contains information on the scope and aims of the Earth Festival. This will be added to as soon as possible in order to incorporate information about key events in planning, as they emerge, as well as a ‘back end’ facility to enable networking and project development between various initiatives. Copies of main presentations are being emailed to participants and available to download from the website, as are Earth festival Project/Event planning Proformas.

320 EXCURSION TO LYME REGIS, EASTER, 1906. pebbles and bed NO.3 seemed, however, to be below their place. The succession seemed, however,to be as above, and, if that be so, the beds below bed I are probably Bagshot Beds. "The pit at the lower level has been already noticed in our Proceedings; cj. H. W. Monckton and R. S. Herries 'On some Bagshot Pebble Beds and Pebble Gravel,' Proc. Ceol. Assoc., vol. xi, p. 13, at p. 22. The pit has been worked farther back, and the clay is now in consequence thicker. Less of the under lying sand is exposed than it was in June, 1888. "The casts of shells which occur in this sand were not abundant, but several were found by members of the party on a small heap of sand at the bottom of the pit." Similarly disturbed strata were again observed in the excavation for the new reservoir close by. A few minutes were then profitably spent in examining Fryerning Church, and its carved Twelfth Century font, etc. At the Spread Eagle a welcome tea awaited the party, which, after thanking the Director, returned by the 7.55 p.m. train to London. First from education, next from running a Diocesan Retreat House, and then 3 years ago, from ministry. Not a rec- ord, perhaps, but retirement suggests slippers and leisurely cups of tea in the garden. Why doesn’t it work like that in reality? I still seem to be happily busy – taking services, occupied with voluntary work, singing in choirs, taking music lessons, and having a wonderful social life! But there is a cautionary note. A recent health scare caused me to con- sider – as one frequently does at a certain age – my own mortality. Death holds no perils, but I’m just not ready for it yet, so I thought I’d write my- self a letter and share it with you, as you may be in the same situation.

BeneathSupported by the Upper Marshwood theVale Vale Parish Council Autumn 2019: Issue 33 Parish council chairperson Matthew Bowditch examines affected trees in Little Giant Wood in Stoke Abbott. Ash tree disease is here First it was called Chalara fraxinea, and shows many healthy mature trees then science showed it was just one stage will eventually succumb. Spores are of a fungus, Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, released from fruiting bodies and can so the name was changed. Gardeners be wind-spread for tens of kilometres. know Fraxinus as the ash, so this is now First noted in Polish forests, it was first the proper name of a very serious threat recorded in our lands in 2012, prompting to UK’s countyside – ash dieback. Neil Hickman (Chair), Cllr Rob Fry, Cllr Angela Bullock, Cllr Chris Lamb and 0 members of the public. Item No. Action PUBLIC DISCUSSION OF ITEMS ON AGENDA Clerk will make the recording of the meeting available. 2020/022 APOLOGIES / DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST / GRANT OF DISPENSATIONS – Apologies were received and accepted from Cllr Jim Cooper & PCSO Alex Bishop. 2020/023 REPORTS FROM DORSET COUNCILLOR AND LOCAL POLICE OFFICER a) PCSO Alex Bishop sent his apologies for being unable to attend and the following report: “Please accept my apologies and a report for tomorrow’s meeting. We had a report from a resident of Mosterton, reporting the amount of speeding traffic. As this was during the lockdown phase, this was at a time when the Community Speed Watch team were not operating. If you have noticed that there has been an increase in speed, the CSW team will be able to start operating again today (Monday 13th July). On 25th June, we had a report of a cold caller, selling household cleaning products from a hold all. This is likely what is known as a ‘Nottingham Knocker’, a male recently released from Prison, travelling the Country to sell these products door to door. Some people are concerned about the validity of the males, but so long as they have a Peddlers License and they are professional (as any salesperson should be), they are not committing any offences. I advise anyone that has any cold callers to not get into any discussions with them and ask them to leave (unless you particularly wish to purchase anything they are selling of course).

  • Ibberton Millennium Book FINAL COPY.Pmd
Ibberton Village in the Year 2000 BY THE VILLAGE FOR THE VILLAGE THE VILLAGE VIEWED FROM THE CHURCH This is a record of the village of Ibberton in the Year 2000 told by the people who live here. Villagers’ accounts of their lifestyle provide a snapshot in time and comparisons are briefly drawn with bygone days. Ordinary annual events and activities provide a perspective on community life. There are also reports on the special projects and events that contributed to the Millennium Year Celebrations. ABRISTENTONA TO IBBERTON One thousand years ago the Doomsday Book records the Saxon name of our settlement as Abristentona, and over the years the name gradually developed into Ibberton. The village nestles in the lee of Bulbarrow Hill and evolved according to prevailing circumstances. In the early days lack of understanding about the techniques of land clearance and drainage resulted in the dwellings and cultivated land being sited on the lower chalk slopes and green sand immedi- ately around and below the church where numerous springs provided water. Evidence of the early settlement is found in the terraced slopes on the hillside above Manor House Farm. A knowledge of drainage and land clearance enabled the community to develop the lower ground where the major part of the village is now sited. The village has had many owners, the most historically famous was probably Henry VIII’s wife Catherine Howard, although there is no evidence that she ever resided at the Manor House. In the nineteen seventies the last large landowner, the Pitt Rivers family, sold off much of the land and houses into private ownership, but prior to that the farms and cottages would have been leased from the Estate.
