This New York City native's first novel, Garden State, won the 1991 Editor's Choice Award from the Pushcart Press. His second novel, The Ice Storm, was made into a feature film by director Ang Lee. He was awarded the Addison Metcalf Award in 1998 and a Guggenheim fellowship in 2000. In May of 2002, Moody published The Black Veil: A Memoir with Digressions, winning the NAMI/Ken Book Award and the PEN Martha AI brand prize for excellence.

Jhumpa Lahiri's first book, Interpreter of Maladies, a collection of stories, won the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, the PEN/Hemingway Award, and the American Academy of Arts & Letters Addison M. Metcalf Award. Lahiri was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship in 2002. The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, Newsday, and New York magazine named her most recent release The Namesake Best Book of the Year.

In 2003 she was a recipient of the Common Wealth Award for Distinguished Service in Literature.

Jones' first was published in Essence in 1976. His first collection of short stories, Lost in the City, was published in 1992 and won the PEN/Hemingway Award and was short-listed for the National Book Award. Jones' first novel, The Known World, received the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for fiction, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and was a finalist for the National Book Award. Jones is also the recipient of a Lannan Foundation Award. BAMcafe is located on the second floor of the Peter Jay Sharp Building, 30 Lafayette Avenue between St. Felix Street and Ashland Place. Centrally located off Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues, BAM is easily accessible from both the Brooklyn and Bridges, as well as the BQE. BAM event parking is $15 (subject to change). MODERATORS

Wendy Wasserstein

Playwright, screenwriter, essayist, librettist, and arts advocate Wendy Wasserstei n was born in Brooklyn and raised in Manhattan. Honors for her play include the Pulitzer Prize, the New York Drama Cri tics Circle Prize, the , the Outer Critics Circle Award, the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the Tony Award. Her newest play, Third, wi ll be presented by Lincoln Center Theater in the 200 5- 200 6 season.

Toure

Author of the novel Soul City and a col lection of short stories called The Portable Promised Land, this Fort Greene resident also serves as the Pop Culture Correspondent on CNN's "American Morning," Contributing Editor at Rolling Stone, and the host of MTV2's "Spoken N' Heard." His writing has appeared in , The New York Times , Tennis Magazine, The Best American Essays of 1999, The Best American Sports Writing of 2001, The Best Music Writing of 2004, and The Best American Erotica of 2004.
