1. Chairman Jonathan welcomed everyone to the meeting and gave fire and safety instructions. 2. The Minutes of the meeting held 7th February were approved as a correct record. 3. Matters Arising not covered elsewhere: Plans for the Greenway are progressing. European/Environmental grant money is being sought urgently for the Burley- Link. The wish is for the Link to go from Westbourne Drive across the Carlrayne footbridge then turn immediately left following the old railway ‘curve’ to join the Greenway on the south side of the A65 opposite Burley’s God’s Acre Cemetery… Sustrans have been engaged to work on this. The Eggs2ipad project re-started in March in the Library—more young volunteers are wanted to balance the numbers. Adult Fitness Trail: Feedback and support registered at the Wellbeing Fair—thanks to Nigel…Menston Parish Council is taking this forward… The current idea is to have seven or eight pieces of equipment placed around the Park. 4. Low Carbon Menston: Jonathan reported that he and Goodith had recently attended a Climate Action meeting with groups from Harrogate, Knaresborough, Otley, Headingly, and . Many ideas were suggested such as Electric Car Clubs, ‘Postcards from the Future’ and the development of ‘Sustainability Plans’. Names were collected at the Wellness Fair for a Menston Climate Action Group and this will be on the Agenda for the next Parish Council Meeting. The meeting agreed that this should be an ongoing and urgent action point for MCA 5. Menston News: The next Menston News will be summer 2019 with a May 30th deadline. Copy wanted, particularly input from the School. There will be information about Menston Show to be held 7th September. Also any MAG issues re Bingley Road. 6. Finances: In his absence, Glynn had submitted a report saying we had £647.33 in the Bank after paying for annual insurance cover. The Raffle at the Wellbeing Fair had raised £140, £70 of which had been donated to the Food Bank. 7. Wellbeing Fair Feedback: The event was a success. The raffle would have been better in the main hall/ MiB got new people interested/ The band was too noisy/ The choir was good/ Menston Cares got new volunteers and the old folks enjoyed seeing the children/ A pianist would be good/ Should be more publicity before—balloons and banners outside/ Didn’t get people who are working/ Definitely a good community event and we want to do it again.

8. Menston in Bloom: Yorkshire in Bloom judges visited on Tuesday 9th April. The village was looking tidy and they were particularly impressed by the school. We get the results in September, though we may get feedback before then. Unfortunately there has been some vandalism in Butterfield Park where shrubs have been deliberately destroyed and this has been reported to the Police. The War Memorial bed at Kirklands is to be updated—ideas wanted, particularly what to do with the individual white stones. MiB’s annual Strawberry Tea and Plant Sale is on 1st June at 23 Park Road. 9. Parish Council: There are eight candidates for seven places up for election in May so there will be an election. A letter has been written to BMDC about the flood risk relating to the Bingley Road development. A satisfactory reply is still awaited and Philip Davis MP has asked for the documents to be ‘called in’. The possible crossing at the Primary School is going to area Panel re traffic calming. 10. Ideas wanted for engagement of younger people: Suggestions were getting them involved with recycling/environment with perhaps an article in the School Newsletter. There is a Youth Club at the Methodist Chapel (9 to 12 year olds) which meets once a month. Maybe they could be involved with the ‘Fitness Trail’ and a ‘Climbing Wall’ was suggested. Try and engage ‘family groups’ where possible. 11. Christmas Lights: Nigel and Cheryl agreed to form a subcommittee to work on improving the Menston Christmas lights and encouraging individual households to light up their frontages. Pickard Pies are planning a Christmas Fair at Kirklands and Cheryl is to enquire how we might be involved. 12. High Royds Sports and Social Club have a summer party on 7th July … Agreed that we should publicise, participate and offer help if required. The Friends of High Royds Memorial Garden are holding their AGM at Kirklands on 17th April—do please come along. 13. Michael Worsley, the newly appointed manager of Sainsbury’s, Menston informed the meeting that Sainsbury’s has 20 hours ‘Community Volunteering’ time available between May and October and MCA type organisations are invited to apply for help where appropriate. Michael was thanked for this and MiB and Menston Cares were particularly interested. Date of next meeting Thursday 4th July 2019 at 7pm
