His homer in the top of the 10th off Jesse Crain lifted the A's to a 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox in front of 20,057 fans at U.S. Cellular Field. It marked the A's third straight victory, and it was another example of their ability to make a lot out of a little. Left-hander Mark Buehrle bottled them up for eight innings and held them hitless through five. The A's managed just five hits total, yet claimed their fourth win in the past five games and evened their record at 5-5. "We dropped too many of those last year, those 10-, 11-inning ballgames," A's starting pitcher Dallas Braden said. "We'd like to turn that ship around and be on the other end of that." The A's went 4-7 in extra-inning affairs in 2010, the third-worst record in the American League. Good karma might be the only explanation for how they even extended Monday's game past the ninth. The Sox led 1-0 when Matt Thornton relieved Buehrle to start the ninth. Andy LaRoche greeted Thornton with a double. After Coco Crisp lined out, Daric Barton lofted a deep fly to the left-field corner.

Meanwhile, Larry Lucchino hints that Buchholz (and Bowden) will get the call up this season. Jacoby Ellsbury’s hitting streak continues, now at 13 games. Maybe we need to take a page from the Rays’ playbook, and “accidentally” mess up the lineup cards so that our pitchers bat. On Sunday, several of the pitchers took BP - Josh Beckett knocked out two homers, Brad Penny hit one as well, and Jon Lester went nuts with three homers. At least we’ll be set for interleague play. This is just mean. Kind of funny, but mean. Is Jon Lester paying the price now for his overuse in 2008?     Masterson struggles in loss to A's Indians endure fourth straight road defeat in Oakland By Jane Lee / Special to MLB.com OAKLAND -- Both the Indians and A's entered Thursday's contest more than 15 games out of their respective division races. Both have endured losing streaks as long as five games this this season. Both are showering its rookies with countless opportunities. Essentially, both have transformed the field into a classroom. However, while the A's have recently watched their youth play a part in the spoiler role, the Indians have watched their work-in-progress group flounder toward the finish line. And, on Thursday, it showed. The Tribe managed just six hits off five Oakland pitchers while Cleveland starter Justin Masterson lasted just four frames en route to a 5-2 loss in the first of a four-game set against the A's, who are winners of nine of their past 11. Meanwhile, the Indians watched their current road trip record move to 0-4. Furthermore, they have lost 15 of their past 19 games -- basically erasing what was once a second-half rally. Aside from a two-run fifth inning, the offense failed to produce any type of rally on Thursday night. Trevor Crowe hit a run-scoring triple in that frame, which was capped off with an RBI ground out off the bat of Michael Brantley against A's starter Clayton Mortensen. The Oakland right-hander exited the game after that frame, but the A's relief corps kept the Indians lineup in check, scattering just two hits through four frames while closer Andrew Bailey picked up his 25th save of the season -- an ongoing record for Oakland rookies.
