Interview Boot Camp - Class of 2017

Please save the date for Thursday, August 6th for an Interview Boot Camp information session from 5 to 6 pm at UC Davis School of Law. During the session, Career Services will go over important interview tips and strategies and walk you through the entire on campus interview process to prepare you for upcoming interviews. We strongly recommend that you either attend this session or watch the video recording before your interviews. The program will then be followed by additional mock interviews at King Hall for those interested. More information regarding these programs will be sent via email to the class listserv over the summer.

OCI BIDDING OPENED JUNE 19

Bidding for OCI, Off-Campus and Resume Collections opens June 19th. Before you can place bids, you need to upload documents in your Documents section. The "Apply" button will only appear once you have uploaded all the documents an employer is requesting. If an employer has requested a document that you have not uploaded it will say "not selected" in the Bid/Application Details area of the posting; once uploaded a drop-down menu will appear in the place of "not selected". Some employers will ask for "Other Documents"; the other documents requested are listed in the "Additional Requests" section of the posting.

Symplicity allows you to store a maximum of 20 documents at a time. Maximum file size per document is 500kb. You can delete cover letters once you have bid for an employer to make room to upload more documents. Deleted documents remain attached to your bids.

Many employers request transcripts. Official transcripts may be over the document size limit so it is recommended that you create and upload an unofficial transcript. Copy your transcript from SIS Web and paste it into a Word document; be sure your name is at the top of the transcript. Once saved you can upload it to Symplicity. When uploading, label law school transcripts as "Unofficial Transcripts" and non-law school transcripts as "Other Document." NOTE: You can only have one "Other Document" and one "Unofficial Transcript" uploaded at a time. If an employer is requesting multiple 'other documents' or transcripts you may need to consolidate some documents; usually you would want to consolidate transcripts.

Is there an advantage to bidding early? No. But do not wait until the last minute to complete your

http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/...2ebf2&c=f034fde0-7dee-11e3-bf03-d4ae528eb986&ch=f0baa8a0-7dee-11e3-bf1e-d4ae528eb986[6/23/2015 8:49:39 AM] applications in case you have questions that you did not anticipate about Symplicity or bidding. Additionally, Symplicity tends to run slow when many students are logged in at once. If you are in the middle of doing a bid and the deadline passes, Symplicity will not allow you to complete your bid. Once the bidding deadline passes it is not possible to change, submit, or withdraw bids.

We have also found that those in a hurry often make mistakes, which can result in application materials being discarded by the employer. Please review you application materials carefully. Every year students accidentally upload cover letters addressed to the wrong employer. Please remember to check all of your application materials carefully.

Employers do not have access to student bids during the bidding period. The day after the bidding deadline is when employers receive access to application materials. Although they will have access to your application materials after the bidding deadline they cannot see when you placed your bid or how you ranked your bid.

Post-Bar Public Interest Law Fellowship Applications

Attention King Hall Class of 2016:

If you are considering applying for a post-bar public interest law fellowship (such as Skadden, Soros and Equal Justice Works), please note that the applications will be due in late summer/early fall! Therefore, the time is NOW to approach potential host organizations and begin developing projects. In fact, several prominent public interest organizations (among them the National Immigration Law Center, Centro Legal de la Raza, Bay Area Legal Aid, DNA-People's Legal Services...) have posted announcements seeking student candidates to partner with. Check Symplicity or those organization's websites for more information.

There are slightly different considerations, deadlines and procedures when applying for each type of fellowship! As an example, see below for initial guidance from Equal Justice Works.

For a general orientation to post-bar public interest fellowships, please watch the February 12, 2015 presentation on that topic under Career Services Presentations on the law school intranet. For individualized counseling by phone, email or in person regarding post-bar public interest fellowships, please contact Timothy Griffiths ([email protected]).

We are eager to assist you with this process in any way we can, so please reach out, even if you are not yet certain you will apply!
