Very pleased to bring you an interview with one of my favourite modern producers, Jil Addis. This month’s issue also sees the review of #Ending The Silence by Euton Daley’s Unlock The Chains Collective. It had been some time since I saw a live show in a theatre and it was very energising to witness such a vital show. Another local event was the start of reggae nights in Eynsham thanks to Richie Roots, writer for The Dub. Hopefully that can now be a regular feature. Pete Clack brings us a profile on a true individual and his connection to New Orleans music – Little Richard. Richard was a trailblazer and a controversial figure for many reasons, as well as giving one Jimi Hendrix one of his first touring jobs in his band. I have loved having Pete’s reports from the blues end of town as reggae owed so much to the sounds of New Orleans, Chicago and elsewhere in the USA. Thanks again to Steve Mosco for his continued support, it means a great deal as for many years I used to buy records from his online Reggae Music Store.

  • The Complexities of an Afrofuturist Reading of Dub
Africa on the Moon: The Complexities of an Afrofuturist Reading of Dub Feature Article John Harries Goldsmiths, University of London (UK) Abstract This article attempts a detailed and specific analysis of the music and the mythology of Lee “Scratch” Perry and other key figures and works in dub, in relation to Afrofuturist thought and the music, theory and philosophy of Sun Ra in particular. It discovers at every turn multiple layers of complication, points of disjuncture as well as confluence, but argues that we can identify complicity and hybridity between these forms and their key protagonists without reducing their distinctiveness or specificity. By viewing dub through an Afrofuturist lens, the article aims to illuminate aspects of dub that would otherwise remain hidden, allowing that here, as in the development and diversification of the musics themselves, the revelatory relationship may be reciprocal. Keywords: Afrofuturism, dub, Sun Ra, Lee “Scratch” Perry, diaspora John Harries is a Lecturer in Popular Music at Goldsmiths, University of London, with specialisms including production, fringe aesthetics in popular music and performance technology. He is also a producer and composer/performer, making electronic pop with Sleeps in Oysters, odd beats and interactive installations as Lake Dysmal and improvised noise with Rutger Hauser. In 2015 he founded record label and artist’s co-operative The Lumen Lake to support grassroots experimental music making in South-East London. perPormers By Anthony aul DeCurtis HAS ALWAYS imonbeen quick to point out that his public career as the songwriting half of Simon and Garfunkel es~ sentially lasted six years, from the release of Wednesday , 3 A.M. in 1964 to the valedictory of Bridge Over Troubled Water in 1970. The work Simon and Garfunkel did during those years will al ways loom large in the history of popular music, and it is why the two men were elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. The burden of that history, the wealth of his year, Paul Simon enters the Hall of those deeply personal associations, is the Fame on the strength of the extraordi first problem Simon had to overcome when he set out on his own. Reggae II : l'âge d'or Extract of Médiathèque Jacques BAUMEL https://www.mediatheque-rueilmalmaison.fr/Reggae-II-l-age-d-or Reggae II : l'âge d'or - Les collections - Bibliographies - Musique, Cinéma, Arts & Loisirs - Musique - Musique du Monde - Publication date: vendredi 10 février 2017 Description: Découvrez le reggae 70 !
