SANTA MONICA, CA (May 24, 2014) –Aniplex of America announced earlier today of their plans to release the first season of Silver Spoon in a complete DVD set on July 15th. Pre-orders for this product will begin on May 27th through official Aniplex of America retailers. Silver Spoon is an anime adaptation of the manga series originally created by author, Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), which has been awarded both the 5th Manga Taisho Award and the 58th Shogakukan Manga Award in 2012. The unique story follows Yugo Hachiken, a young man who decides to attend an agricultural high school in the countryside of Hokkaido prefecture in order to escape the academic pressures he had to live within the city. The series demonstrates how Yugo, who is initially burned-out, comes to see his life through a different light as he engages with his classmates and works with the animals on the farm at Oezo Agricutral High School a.k.a. Ezono. The anime series is directed by Tomohiko Ito, best known for his work with Sword Art Online, and the animation was produced by A-1 Pictures notable for their work on popular titles such as Sword Art Online, Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, Blue Exorcist, and Oreimo 2. The first season of Silver Spoon’s anime series began its simulcast schedule in July of last year.

The idea of non-linear games origi- nated from a book genre called choose your own adventure. These books let the reader choose the way the story would go with multiple options within the books. Non-linear games change every time they are played. Interactive games are a type of non- linear game that gives the player choices to move the story toward different directions. The player’s actions determine the direction of the plot. In this final year project, an interactive story game called “Road trip” was created. It is a simple example to demonstrate how an interactive story game controller works. It also has certain traits of open world games, which allows the player to explore freely around the area. The game was created with Unity and the logic of the game used the tree-diagram as a base. Along with object-oriented programming, the controller of the game uses triggers as their base for the game logic. The triggers are invisible 3D-objects that detect the player and trigger the codes attached to it. These codes contained, for example, the choices that the player would come across while playing.

    Ethics at Play in Undertale: Rhetoric, Identity and Deconstruction Frederic SERAPHINE The University of Tokyo – ITASIA Program Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies 7-3-1 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-0033, JAPAN +81-3-5841-8769 Seraphine[at]g.ecc.u-tokyo.ac.jp ABSTRACT This paper focuses on the effect of ethical – and unethical – actions of the player on their perception of the self towards game characters within Toby Fox’s (2015) independent Role Playing Game (RPG) Undertale, a game often perceived as a pacifist text. With a focus on the notions of guilt and responsibility in mind, a survey with 560 participants from the Undertale fandom was conducted, and thousands of YouTube comments were scraped to better understand how the audience who watched or played the different routes of the game, refer to its characters. Through the joint analysis of the game’s semiotics, survey data, and data scraping, this paper argues that, beyond the rhetorical nature of its story, Undertale is operating a deconstruction of the RPG genre and is harnessing the emotional power of gameplay to evoke thoughts about responsibility and raise the player’s awareness about violence and its consequences. For many of its players, a game like Undertale seems to fall into this category. Because its story puts the player in the situation of making choices that affect dramatically the course of the narrative, and the survival of its characters, it seems people who played this game grow an attachment to its fictional characters comparable to the attachment to a friend in their real life.

    Contact: Kristyn Souder Communications Director Email: [email protected] Phone: (267)536-9566 PRESS RELEASE Zenkaikon Convention to Bring Anime and Science Fiction Fans to Lancaster in March Hatboro, PA – January 21, 2013: On March 22-24, 2013, Zenkaikon will hold its seventh annual convention in a new location at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The convention expects to welcome over two thousand fans of Japanese animation (anime), comics (manga), gaming, and science fiction to downtown Lancaster for the weekend-long event. Zenkaikon had typically been held in the Valley Forge area of Pennsylvania. However, with the conversion of the Valley Forge Convention Center to a casino and the continued growth of the event, Zenkaikon moved its convention to Lancaster. Many convention attendees don costumes of their favorite characters to attend the annual convention. Planned convention events include a variety of educational panels and workshops hosted by volunteers and guests; anime and live action screenings; a costume and skit competition (the "Masquerade"); a hall costume contest; performances by musical guests; a live action role play ("LARP") event; video game tournaments and tabletop gaming; a formal ball and informal dances; and an exhibit hall of anime-themed merchandise and handmade creations from artists. A number of Guests of Honor have already been announced for Zenkaikon 2013. John de Lancie, best known for his roles on Star Trek and Stargate SG-1, and more recently known for his role as Discord on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, will be hosting panels and meeting attendees. Prolific voice and live action actor Richard Epcar (Ghost in the Shell, The Legend of Korra, Kingdom Hearts) and actress Ellyn Stern (Robotech, Gundam Unicorn, Bleach) will also be participating in a variety of programming.
