MSU claimed the win thanks to a 15-0 run over a six-minute stretch of the second half. After shooting 29.7 percent in the opening half, the Bulldogs sparkled on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor. By the time the run ended MSU had firm control of the game at 57-41 with 10:31 left in the contest. Vivians overcame a 2-for-10 performance from the floor in the first half by hitting 8-of-13 shots from the field in the second half. Breanna Richardson was also in double figures with 10 points. West Virginia (2-1) built an 18-11 lead midway through the first half. The Bulldogs were struggling offen- sively, so they found their second gear on the defensive end. The Bulldogs took their first lead since 1-0 at 19-18 on a basket by Breanna Richardson. The lead would go back-and-forth a couple of more times before the Maroon and White took a 35-32 lead into the locker room at the half. In the second half, MSU never trailed and eventually opened up a 42-41 lead with 16:21 left.
