2 2 WTVP—More Choices For more information, please visit wtvp. org W Observing Memorial Day National Memorial Day Concert Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 7 PM, marks the 29th annual broadcast of the NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT, bringing us together as one family of Americans to honor the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform, military families and all those who have given their lives for our country. The concert features acclaimed actors Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise and an all-star lineup of actors and musicians, along with top pops conductor Jack Everly and the National Symphony Orchestra. This tribute to our military airs live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol before an audience of hundreds of thousands, a broadcast audience of millions and to our troops around the world via American Forces Network.

A Golden Cross to Bear In the autumn of 1918, more than 1 million Americans fight- ing in France engaged in the bloodiest battle in the history of the U.S. military. Over 47 days of warfare, nearly 100,000 U.S. “doughboys” were wounded, and more than 26,000 were killed in action in a chapter of “The Great War” that few Americans today truly understand. During the 100th anniversary of World War 1, “A Golden Cross to Bear” is a documentary series that follows a grandson of an infantry soldier from the 33rd “Golden Cross” Division who embarks on a global journey to retrace the footsteps of the men who played an important role in helping bring World War 1 to an end, and how that experience ulti- mately shaped the global map, and his own family. Produced and directed by the Emmy award-winning team behind “The Greatest Honor,” WTVP-TV is proud to partner with the World War One Centennial Commission to bring you “A Golden Cross to Bear”, an exclusive television documentary program that explores a previously untold story of the front line soldier’s experience in that conflict, and the importance of remembering their service, and their sacrifice.” Watch this fascinating Illinois connection to World War I on WTVP Sunday, May 27th at 6:30 PM.
