6 naral pro-choice colorado 2018 colorado legislative scorecard & political report 7 MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Karen Middleton

June, 2018 Dear NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Supporter: It’s been a productive and gratifying 2018 General Assembly, as NARAL Pro- Choice Colorado continues to grow in both size and effectiveness at the State Capitol. Policymakers listen to us because they hear from you - our more than 35,000 members statewide. We were able to make progress this year on several fronts. The FAMLI Act, which allows Coloradans to take paid leave for a sick family member or a new baby, went further than it ever has before and passed the full House before its defeat in a Senate Committee. We continued funding for Colorado’s nationally-recognized contraceptive program. With our Coalition partners, we introduced a landmark pro-active bill to ensure Colorado remains a state where abortion and reproductive health care continues to be available without shame, stigma, or cost barriers. Most notably, we were active and vocal advocates for a Member of the Colorado House of Representatives being expelled for sexual harassment. And we were able to stop bad bills in their tracks, including abortion bans and bills requiring physicians and medical professionals to lie to their patients. But that’s not enough. We need a pro-choice majority to truly protect Coloradans and our pro-choice values. We need to make sure that no matter what happens in Washington, DC, people in Colorado can access the care that they need, and that providers can offer it. So use this report. Not just to see where we are, but to see where we need to go. We are counting on you to help take us there. In Solidarity,

Karen
