It Was Their Last Home Game Unti The Story Coming In The Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Saskatoon Blades 3-1 on Tuesday night. It was their last home game until November 16th since they will play the next nine games on the road starting this afternoon in Calgary against the Hitmen. The Tigers are 8-2-1-0 to start the season and they are led by veteran forwards James Hamblin with 14 points (5G, 9A) and Ryan Chyzowski with 13 points (7G, 6A). Tigers vs. Hitmen This afternoon’s contest will be the second time these two Central Division Rivals have faced off this season. The Hitmen shut the door on the Tigers in a 2-0 victory September 29, 2019. The last time Medicine Hat defeated Calgary was November 4, 2018, in a 5-4 contest. The Orange and Black are 10-7-2-0 against the Hitmen over the past five years. View from Calgary The Calgary Hitmen defeated the Moose Jaw Warriors 7-3 on Friday night improving their season record to 5-2-10. Forward Orca Wiesblatt had his WHL two-goal game on Friday and he also picked up an assist earning first star of the night. The Hitmen are led by 2019 Vancouver Canucks draft pick Carson Focht (6G, 6A) and Russia import Egor Zamula (4G, 8A) with 12 points each. Tigers Talent Rookie defenceman Dru Krebs scored his first career WHL goal on Tuesday night against the Saskatoon Blades. The 16-year-old Okotoks native was drafted by the Tigers in the second round of the 2018 WHL Bantam draft, 38th overall. He is a strong skating defenceman who likes to jump in offensively and who makes smart plays defensively. Captain’s Corner Captain James Hamblin was named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week and he earned Vaughn CHL team of the week honours for the week of October 13th. The 20-year-old Edmonton product is a speedy, skilled two-way forward who leads his team by example with his hard work ethic and tenacity. Quick Hits Veteran forward Ryan Chyzowski has been selected to play for Team WHL in the CIBC Canada Russia Series. Chyzowski has 13 points (7G, 6A) in 11 games played this season. Rookie forward Cole Sillinger will be playing for Team Canada during the World U17 Hockey Challenge. Sillinger has 12 points (7G, 5A) in 11 games played this season. Calgary born defenceman Eric Van Impe will be turning 18 on Monday, October 21st. The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Medicine Hat & District Skate with the Tigers will be Tuesday, October 22nd starting at 6 PM. Rookie goaltender Garin Bjorklund has been rated a ‘C’ Prospect on NHL Central Scouting’s Players to Watch. Bjorklund has a 3-0-0-0 record, a 1.67 GAA and 0.943 SAV% so far this season. The Tigers have been ranked 7th in the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings.     The Story Coming In The Medicine Hat Tigers host the Calgary Hitmen tonight for the third meeting in the course of a week between these two hockey clubs. The Tigers defeated the Hitmen 3-1 Saturday in Medicine Hat before falling 4-2 on Wednesday in Calgary. The Orange and Black are 23-11-1-1 and they are led by their Captain James Hamblin with 55 points (19G, 36A) and veteran forward Brett Kemp with 43 points (16G, 27A). After tonight’s game, the Tabbies will host the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday before departing early next week to Manitoba to take on the Brandon Wheat Kings Tuesday and the Winnipeg ICE on Wednesday. Tigers vs. Hitmen Tonight’s game between the Tigers and the Hitmen will be their third meeting in seven days and their fifth battle of the season. The Hitmen won all three games played at the Saddledome and the Tabbies have won the lone game played at the Canalta Centre. After tonight, Medicine Hat and Calgary will not meet again until March 6th at the Canalta Centre. The Tigers are 11-9-2-0 against the Hitmen over the past five years and 7-2-1-0 when playing at home.
