381 Days: The Montgomery Bus Boycott Story ~ February 3rd – May 20th Tuesday-Saturday, 10 AM -5 PM, and Sundays, 12 NOON -5 PM. OAA This exhibit commemorates the events of 1955 that became the genesis of the modern civil rights movement. Visit this fantastic museum and check out all of the exhibits chronicling African American history. Senior admission is $2 Tuesday-Saturday, and admission is free on Sundays. th Friday Evening at the Movies ~ Friday, February 16 ~ 6:30 - 9:00 PM Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin In celebration of Black History Month, we’ll be screening this documentary about the life and contributions of Bayard Rustin, the openly gay confidant of Martin Luther King, Jr. Rustin is credited with organizing the largest nonviolent protest ever held in the US, as well as bringing Gandhi’s non-violent protest techniques to the civil rights movement. Refreshments will be provided and we’ll have facilitated discussion after the movie. We particularly welcome first time visitors to our older adults program at these gatherings! The Oscar Party 2007 ~ Sunday, February 25th, 6:00 PM OAA Join us as we celebrate the live telecast of the 2007 Academy Awards with our own red carpet interviews, gift bags, silent auction, cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres, dessert and coffee, and prizes for the best red carpet dress attire. New Millennium Orchestra ~ Monday, February 26th, 6:30 PM -8:30 PM OAA Chicago’s New Millennium Orchestra presents Samuel Barber’s lush and moving Knoxville, Summer of 1915, featuring soprano Michelle Areyzaga. The concert also includes Copeland’s mysterious Quiet City and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Op. 21. This FREE event is at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. American Opera Group ~ Friday, March 2nd ~ 7:30 PM [also 2/25 and 3/4 – see below] L’essense de CARMEN Other Come see the American Opera Group’s presentation of this classic opera (presented in French with English titles) and enjoy the music of George Bizet.
