T’was The Night Before Christmas THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SILENT, ALONE, SO SILENT AND STILL, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR, AND WE BOTH SHIVERED, IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE, THE ROOM IN DISORDER, ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, NOT HOW I PICTURED, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR, A TRUE MODERN SOLDIER. SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

WAS THIS THE HERO, THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES, ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS, "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

SOON ROUND THE WORLD, This poem was written by a THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, peacekeeping soldier AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE, stationed overseas. A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES, EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY, WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, I COULDN'T HELP WONDER, AND TO SEE JUST WHO, A SOBER THOUGHT, HOW MANY LAY ALONE, IN THIS HOME, DID LIVE. CAME THROUGH MY MIND. ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE, IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, A TEAR TO MY EYE, NOT EVEN A TREE. ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. I DROPPED TO MY KNEES, AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED, AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.." Big Springs

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, Insurance Agency AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, 308-889-9616 I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. Thank you to the community for your Merry Christmas support. Best wishes to all of you in the to our Stapleton friends! coming new year!
