Gaelic Mass Celebrated at Dayton Celtic Festival FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT MARY ROBERTSON, 937-848-8435 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GAELIC MASS CELEBRATED AT DAYTON CELTIC FESTIVAL Dayton, OH…July 2011…A special Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, July 31, as part of the 2011 Dayton Celtic Festival. Mass begins at 10:00 a.m. in the RiverScape Pavilion at RiverScape MetroPark, 111 Monument Avenue in downtown Dayton. The Mass will be celebrated in both English and Irish (Gaelic) by the Reverend Sean Patrick Kealy,C.S.Sp., professor of Theology at Duquesne University in Pittsburg. This is the third time Father Kealy has celebrated Mass at the Dayton Celtic Festival, and event organizers are pleased for his return to Dayton. Radio Maria will broadcast the Gaelic Mass live on Sunday, July 31, at 10 a.m. Radio Maria can be heard on 1600 AM WULM Springfield/Dayton, 88.7 FM WHJM Anna/West Central Ohio, and streaming live at www.radiomaria.us, where there are also mobile apps for Blackberry, Android and iPhone available. Those attending Mass this year will also be able to treat themselves to a Celtic Breakfast from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Irish Arts Tent on the Festival grounds. Father Kealy has published many books in England, Africa, Ireland, and the United States. His main interests are in the gospels. He has also served as President and Professor at Blackrock College in Dublin, and has taught theology in Kenya and Nairobi. He is currently researching the history of the Lukan literature as a follow-up on his history of the other three Gospels. The 2011 Dayton Celtic Festival is presented by United Irish of Dayton. Over the years, we have supported various aspects of non-commercial micro- broadcast efforts including Low Power FM (LPFM), proposals for a Low Power AM radio service as well as other creative concepts to use spectrum for one way communications. REC feels that as many organizations as possible should be able to enjoy spreading their message to their local community. It is our desire to see a diverse selection of voices on the dial spanning race, culture, language, sexual orientation and gender identity. This includes a mix of faith-based and secular voices. While REC lacks the technical knowledge to form an opinion on various aspects of AM broadcast engineering such as the “ratchet rule”, daytime and nighttime coverage standards and antenna efficiency, we will comment on various issues which are in the realm of citizen’s access to the airwaves and in the interests of listeners to AM broadcast band stations. REC supports a limited offering of translators to certain AM stations REC feels that there is a segment of “stand-alone” AM broadcast owners. These owners normally fall under the category of minority, women or GLBT/T2. These owners are likely to own a single AM station or a small group of AM stations and are most likely to only own stations with inferior nighttime service, such as Class-D stations.
