26 2014 American Athletic Conference TIGERS

TIGERS NOTEBOOK • The Tigers open the season Feb. 14 against Western Michigan, 276 days since the last game played at FedExPark. Over the offseason, FedExPark was upgraded with new padding on the outfield wall and the Tigers’ bullpen was renovated.

• Returning for the Tigers are junior first baseman Tucker Tubbs and junior catcher Carter White, who were named to the preseason all-conference team. Tubbs led the Tigers in 2013 with a .327 batting average while White was close behind with a .325 average.

• The Tigers field an experienced team on defense with eight position starters returning. Memphis returns 96 percent of its hits from 2013 (483 of 505).

• A total of eight healthy pitchers return for the Tigers, but have combined for just three starts during their careers. Those eight pitchers totaled 109.2 innings on the mound in 2013, or 37 percent of the season.

30 2014 American Athletic Conference BULLS

BULLS NOTEBOOK • After beginning the season 14-14 in 2013, USF finished the year going 22-8 over its final 30 games.

• Jimmy Herget and Nik Alfonso were both named to the Preseason All- American Athletic Conference team. Herget was also named Preseason Pitcher of the Year after taking home Big East Rookie of the Year honors last season.

• Offensively the Bulls return just one (Alfonso) of their top five hitters from a year ago. Alfonso hit .331 on the year with six doubles, 23 runs scored and 23 RBIs.

• Not known as a power-hitting team to begin with, the Bulls return just three batters who hit a home run a season ago.

• Jordan Strittmatter and Lawrence Pardo return to provide a pair of reliable arms in the bullpen as the duo combined to appear in 60 games last season. Strittmatter posted a 1.75 ERA over 25.2 innings while Pardo registered a 2.27 ERA over 43.2 innings and a 5-1 record. JUNIOR KYLE TEAF USF BASEBALL STADIUM CAPACITY - 3,211
