During the ceremony, Backstrom will receive a special gift from the and the Capitals organization. Backstrom became the first player in Capitals franchise and the 87th player in NHL history to reach the 600 assist mark on Nov. 22 against the at Rogers Arena. Backstrom has registered 815 points (212g, 603a) in 828 career NHL games and ranks first in franchise history in assists, third in points and sixth in games played. Backstrom was drafted by Washington in the first round, fourth overall, in the 2006 NHL Draft. He is the first player from the 2006 Draft class to reach the 600-assist plateau and also ranks first among players drafted in 2006 in points. The Gavle, Sweden, native is the ninth Swedish-born player in NHL history to reach 600 assists, joining Nicklas Lidstrom (878), Henrik Sedin (830), Mats Sundin (785), Daniel Alfredsson (713), Daniel Sedin (648), Borje Salming (637), Peter Forsberg (636) and Henrik Zetterberg (623). Backstrom also became the second-fastest Swedish-born player in NHL history to reach the 600-assist plateau (Forsberg, 551 GP). Backstrom set up 52 different teammates on the road to 600 career assists, including 234 helpers on goals by Alex Ovechkin (39 percent). Since he entered the NHL in 2007-08, Backstrom ranks first in the NHL in assists and ranks fifth in points. He also leads the NHL in power-play assists (273) since 2007-08 and ranks second in power-play points (340), trailing Ovechkin (356). In addition, he ranks first in multi-assist games since he entered the League (141), first in three-assist games (40) and four-assist games (11). This season, Backstrom has recorded 16 points (3g, 13a) in 13 games and leads the team in assists.

TOP FIVE CAPS FACTS Great 8 - Alex Ovechkin recorded his 11th goal of the season against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday, which is tied for second in the NHL through games played Nov. 5. Ovechkin’s tally came on the power play, his fifth power play goal of the season and his 234th power play goal of his career. That tied him with Marcel Dionne for eighth place on the NHL’s all-time power play goal list. Since his debut in 2005-06, Ovechkin has scored 99 more power play goals than the next closest player, with Thomas Vanek and Evgeni Malkin following him on the list with 135 power play markers over that span. Additionally, Ovechkin leads the NHL power play goals since the 1993-94 season, 11 years before Ovechkin’s NHL debut. Ovechkin now sits at 618 career goals, eight goals shy of passing Jarome Iginla and Joe Sakic (625) for sole possession of 15th place on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. Additionally, Ovechkin is 54 shots shy of becoming the eighth player in NHL history to reach 5,000 shots. In 2017-18 he led the NHL in goals for the seventh time, finishing with 49, and he’s tied with Bobby Hull for the most times a single player has led the NHL in goals in a season. Ovechkin, the NHL’s active leader in goals as well as the Capitals franchise leader, is the only player in NHL history to win a Calder Memorial Trophy, an Art Ross Trophy, a Hart Memorial Trophy, a Ted Lindsay Award, a Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy and a Conn Smythe Trophy. Last season Ovechkin became the 20th player in history - and fourth fastest - to reach 600 goals. Among the top 20 goal scorers all- time, Ovechkin's 0.61 goals per game ranks second (: 0.75 goals per game). Wayne Gretzky holds the NHL's all-time record for goals scored (894) and has played 471 more games than Ovechkin. Should Ovechkin play in 471 more games and maintain his 0.61 goals per game rate, Ovechkin is on a 905-goal pace.

All That Power - Through the first 13 games of the season, the Capitals are 15 for 41 on the power play, and their 36.6 percent success rate ranks first in the NHL, and their 15 power play goals are tied for first in the NHL (St. Louis). Evgeny Kuznetsov leads the Capitals and is tied for first in the NHL with six power play goals (Patrik Laine, Winnipeg). Kuznetsov (6g, 4a) also leads the Caps in power play points and is tied for first in the NHL, while John Carlson (1g, 8a) is tied for first among defensemen in power play points. The Capitals hold a 6-1-2 record when they score at least one power play goal, and they've scored a power play goal in nine of their 13 games this season. Since the 2009-10 season, the Capitals' 22.6 cumulative power play percentage (520 goals on 2,296 opportunities) ranks first, two percentage points higher than the San Jose Sharks, who rank second.

Kuz Control - Evgeny Kuznetsov recorded an assist on Monday against the Edmonton Oilers. That marked Kuznetsov's 18th point (6g, 12a) of the season, which ranks first on the team and are tied for the eighth most in the NHL. In his last 64 games, including the regular season and playoffs, Kuznetsov has recorded 84 points (31g, 53a). Over a full 82-game regular season, that equates to 107 points. During that span, Kuznetsov has recorded 23 multi-point efforts, including four four-point games. Kuznetsov has 283 points (86g, 197a) in 353 career games, and his 0.80 points per game ranks fifth among all players selected in the 2010 NHL Draft. Additionally, Kuznetsov's 0.56 assists per game leads all forwards selected in the 2010 NHL Draft. Kuznetsov is three assists shy of becoming the 22nd player in franchise history to record 200 career assists. According to NHL Stats, if he records three assists in the next seven games, he will be the sixth-fastest player in franchise history to reach the 200 assist mark (Nicklas Backstrom hold the franchise record, 262 games). Additionally, Kuznetsov will become the fastest player from the 2010 draft class to reach the mark (Taylor Hall: 393 games).

Gelling Lines - Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitrij Jaskin were on the same line for the first time against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. The trio produced 18 shot attempts for and allowed seven against (72.0 shot attempt percentage). Additionally, Jakub Vrana, Travis Boyd and Devante Smith-Pelly played together for the first time against Edmonton and produced two goals at five- on-five within their first two shifts of the game.

Scoring in Pittsburgh - In 53 games against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Alex Ovechkin has 57 points (34g, 23a), leading all NHL players in goals and points against the Penguins. Nicklas Backstrom has 48 points (7g, 41a) in 43 games against Pittsburgh, the most assists among active players against the Penguins. Evgeny Kuznetsov has 12 points (3g, 9a) in 20 career games against the Penguins.

Additional Capitals Notes Home Cooking - This season, Washington is 4-1-2 at home, and their 4.29 goals per game on home ice are tied with the for first in the NHL. Additionally, the Capitals have been scoring on 48.0 percent of their power play opportunities at Capital One Arena (12 goals on 25 opportunities), 7.1 percent greater than the Winnipeg Jets, who rank second in the NHL in home power play percentage. Since the 2014-15 season, the Capitals have a record of 116-40-15 at home, ranking first in the NHL both wins and points (247). During that span, the Capitals’ 546 goals for ranks fourth, while their 375 goals against rank first. During that span, Alex Ovechkin’s 103 goals rank first, 15 more than St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko, who ranks second in home goals since 2014-15. Of Ovechkin’s 618 career goals, 315 have come at home. That’s the 24th-most home goals in NHL history, one behind Mike Bossy (316).

Fire Power - The Capitals' 3.77 goals per game are the most in the NHL. If Washington is able to maintain that rate, that will be the highest goals per game average in the NHL since the Capitals averaged 3.82 goals per game in the 2009-10 season. The Capitals have scored three or more goals in 10 of their 13 games this season, earning a point in all but one (6-1-3). TONIGHT’S GAME -The Penguins head to the road to battle the Washington Capitals (TV: NBC Sports Network; Radio: 105.9 The X) at Capital One Arena. -The Pens are 4-0-2 on the road to begin the young season. The last time the Penguins began the season with an unbeaten stretch of seven or more games on the road was 2009-10 when they won their first seven road contests. -Evgeni Malkin is the lone Pens player to record points in all six road games thus far (5G-7A-12PTS). -The Pens are hoping to end their four-game winless stretch (0-3-1) tonight. It’s the Pens longest stretch without a win since March 23- 29, 2017 (0-2-2). The Pens haven’t gone five-consecutive games without a win since December 11-19, 2015 (0-4-1). The final four games in that stretch marked the first four games the Pens played under head coach Mike Sullivan, whose first game behind the bench came Dec. 14, 2015 vs. Washington.

TEAM NOTES:

OLEKSIAK TO PLAY 200TH NHL GAME Penguins defenseman Jamie Oleksiak – the team’s lone goal scorer Monday night against New Jersey – will play his 200th NHL game tonight at Capital One Arena. Oleksiak has been a surprise secondary scorer through the early weeks of the season, sitting second among team defensemen with eight points (4G-4A). His four goals are tied with Kris Letang for the club lead among defenders. Oleskiak is one goal shy of equaling his career high in that category, and almost halfway toward equaling his career-best point total of 17 set last season. Prior to Tuesday night’s games, only four NHL defensemen had scored more goals than Oleksiak: Morgan Rielly (TOR, 6); Maxime Lajoie (OTT, 5); John Klingberg (DAL, 5); and John Carlson (WSH, 5). Oleksiak has now produced the same number of points through his first 59 games with Pittsburgh as he did in 140 games with his original club, the Dallas Stars, at the start of his career.

ENCORE PERFORMANCE? The Penguins and Capitals will be hard-pressed to match their thrilling encounter on October 4, a 7-6 Pens’ overtime victory. Kris Letang capped a three-point night (2G-1A) by scoring on an OT power play. The back-and-forth affair saw both teams enjoy three one- goal advantages each, and it featured four instances where the game was tied. The Penguins’ stars all had big games in the opener, with Evgeni Malkin (1G-2A), Sidney Crosby (2A) and Phil Kessel (2A) joining Letang by recording multiple points. Since the 2015-16 season, the Pens and Caps met 33 times between the regular season and playoffs. The Penguins hold a slim 18-15 advantage in terms of games won. Seventeen of the 33 contests have been decided by just one goal.

The limited-edition “Stronger Than Hate” patches are identical to those worn by Penguins players during their October 30 game against the New York Islanders at PPG Paints Arena. All proceeds from the sale of patches will go to the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh. The cost of each patch is $20.

STREAK STOPPED AT NINE Evgeni Malkin was riding his longest point streak in four years, but that run came to a close when he and the Penguins were shut out on Saturday night by Toronto. Before that, Malkin had rattled off points in nine-straight games (6G-11A-17PTS). It was his longest point streak since he had an 11-game run (5G-11A-16PTS) to open the 2014-15 season under former head coach Mike Johnston. Additionally, forward Dominik Simon saw his career-high five-game point streak (2G-4A-6PTS) come to a close with the shutout loss on Saturday.

MALKIN NAMED NHL SECOND STAR FOR OCTOBER Evgeni Malkin was named NHL Second Star for the month of October. Malkin wrapped up the month of October with 19 points (6G-13A), tying him with Boston’s Patrice Bergeron for the second-highest total in the NHL behind Colorado’s , who had 21 points. Malkin was both dominant and consistent during the opening month, recording at least one point in nine of 10 games, including six multiple-point efforts. He had four games with at least three points. Dating back to last season, this marks the third time in the past four regular-season calendar months that Malkin has been named one of the NHL’s Three Stars. During his second-half scoring spree to conclude last year, Malkin was the league’s First Star for January and the Second Star of February.
